Sometimes using your voice to record a reminder is quicker and easier than typing out a note. If you don’t use the Jott service for notes than you might be glad to know that the Shadow (and other Windows Mobile phones) has a voice recorder. Using it is a lot easier than it might seem. There are several ways to go about this: More >
You heard right, Free as in Beer. We’ve talked about it in the past but now is as good a time as any to rehash the concept. Many of you are aware of Google Maps’ ability to triangulate your location using Cell Tower information. Many times this accuracy ranges from 500 meters to 5000 meters. Most of the time this is unacceptable. Additionally there is no way to share this information with other location based programs. Most of our readership lives in cities and have some sort of access to the internet be it through a data plan or wifi access. This is an important part of how this free GPS works so keep reading for the details. More >
agoetz5201 has been busy baking up some ROM goodness in the Shadow forums. Specifically for the ‘07 Shadow which is our long time favorite phone. There are several versions to be found including spanish but this is my favorite so far. A simple installation app has been created and as long as you follow the instructions (FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!) you should be on your merry way to sporting Windows Mobile 6.5 on your ‘07 T-Mobile Shadow. Who said good things don’t come in small packages? So head over to the forums and take a look at your new Shadow.
There are many ways to watch online video and YouTube videos from your Shadow but perhaps you want to upload a video. It’s easy to do. You do need an email account setup on your Shadow, a data connection, a YouTube account and a video to upload. It’s recommended you upload using a wifi connection instead of Edge. Many people who buy cell phones just get them for making phone calls, text messaging and surfing the web, few people know that they can actually make their phones act more how they want them to beyond the “Settings” screen. That’s where communities like ours come in. We mod, hack, theme and edit our phones to the breaking point. We squeeze every ounce of functionality out of our devices, and tweak them till they’re perfect (or close to it).
Everyone needs to begin somewhere though, and putting programs on your device is a good starting point. And that’s what we’re going to do now, install our first program. More >
back_right points out that YouTube has released a new app for Windows Mobile that allows you to access YouTube videos. While no app is perfect, many people are finding that it fits the bill. It works over EDGE and Wi-Fi. A few quirks are that the landscape only rotates counter clockwise and that you can’t login to your account. However! You can still access many of your favorite videos like the G1 Unboxing. How quaint.
You can download the new YouTube app for Windows Mobile (Shadow, Wing, Dash) from m.YouTube.com on your phone. If you want more options check out our tutorial which also lets you watch videos from other sites and vTap.
This Facebook app comes from Windows Mobile 6.5 thanks to the work in the forums of kron2 we can now share it with you! I was actually surprised at how well this application works. There was an unexpected bonus, the video recorder and uploader actually works! I recorded a quick (<30 secs) video on the Shadow and it was instantly uploaded to Facebook where it went live immediately. If you want to get your grubby little hands on the app you can find it in the forums in this thread.
If you want, you can always add me as a friend on Facebook. Just look for Mike Benton in Phoenix, AZ.
