T-Mobile Announcement Coming on Dec 6th

There is a rumor going around that T-Mobile has an announcement coming on Dec 6th regarding their long awaited 3G network. That means High Speed Internet Access via Cell Phone. Will all current handsets support this? Probably not. How many cities will this be available in? More than likely it will be rolled out in Seattle and other denser populated areas. Will the Shadow be able to use it? We will have to see

Loading ...Can Someone Steal Your Data?

In response to our post on security Joe asked “what if someone hard resets your device. can they get your stuff?”
In short the answer is No.
I tested this by hard resetting my Shadow, which deletes all your data from the device (not the storage card) and wipes clean any settings. It’s like starting over from scratch, so Do Not Attempt this unless you absolutely have to. If you have to: with the device off, hold down the right and left soft keys and then press and hold the power button. Once a black screen shows asking you a question, release the power button and then the soft keys. This is your last chance, if you want to reset the device COMPLETELY press the Send key. Otherwise press the End key.
Note: Even if you hard reset your device and encryption is on. You will not be able to access your files. So be sure to back up the data on your storage card before doing so.
At any rate. After resetting my device I went to the storage card and looked at the files. The folder structure was still there but each filename was appended by some code. I even transferred these files to my desktop and changed the file name, removing the appended extension. Did it work? No. The files were encrypted.
To Summarize: If anyone gets their hands on your phone, and you have the encryption on as well as a PIN code, they will not be able to access your data. The only people that will be able to will be encryption experts (which are not your common criminal).

Dennis asked if there was a way to set an image as the Home screen background and not have it zoom in. It looks like it really depends on the size of the image itself. For example if you use the Waterfall picture that comes preloaded on the Shadow it will fit perfectly, but if you take a picture at 2MP resolution, set it as background you get the ‘Set Display Area’ screen. It looks like it will use that area but when you return to the home screen it is zoomed in. Here is a solution I found.

Dennis asked if there was a way to watch online videos on the T-Mobile Shadow. Windows Mobile doesn’t include the native ability to watch online video however there is a method for enabling a near seamless method of watching video on the T-Mobile Shadow. We’re not talking just Youtube, there is also Google Video, Veoh, Daily Motion and many more. Now you can one up your iPhone friends…again
What you need:
- TCPMP for Smartphones 0.72RC1 <–Shadow Users (Pocket PC users need this one)
- Skunkworks FlashVideoBundle
- Wifi connection for better viewing
Once you have downloaded and transferred these files to your phone. Install them using file manager. Be sure you install both files to the same place (either Device OR Storage Card), they need to be in the same place to work correctly. Be sure you install the right one for your device.
From the home screen, click the Start button and scroll down the programs list. You will see the ‘TCPMP’ as well as an Internet Explorer icon called ‘Video Sites’, go ahead and select that to get a good list of various sites. Use the ‘Video Sites’ link
***Warning: The default Video Sites file contains links to video sites that contain adult content, to change this simply go to the folder Device > Program Files > TCPMP and delete the folder ’sites’. Next rename the folder ’sites.clean’ to ’sites’***

It has surely happened to everyone. An accidental keypress while a phone is in your pocket and someone gets a phonecall. For the most part these calls are harmless but there are times when it might become a nuisance.
The Shadow comes with automatic locking already enabled, however the two keys needed to unlock it are on next to each other on the same side of the phone. Further, the call button is next to these two as well. Simply walking can press these buttons.
There is a solution, a solution everyone should use anyways. Use a pin code with your phone. It might seem a small nuisance at first but if you do leave your phone somewhere you don’t have to worry about your information and pictures ending up in the wrong hands.
Additionally, Windows Mobile 6 (WM6) includes a setting for encrypting content on your memory card. A pin for your phone is only good for the information on the phone itself. If you have any sensitive data on the memory card it can be accessed through a card reader. So encrypt it and give the bad guys a hard time.
