Get RSS feeds on your Mobile Phone Without an Internet Connection

Having access to the internet on our mobile devices is second nature for most people these days. With the current economy though, it’s not a necessity. You may say “Well it’s not that muchfor a data plan”, but that monthly payment adds up quickly.
That being the case, there are still people without data plans (including me). Even though we may not have internet on our phones, it would be nice to be able to get basic information from our favorite websites throughout the day, like RSS feeds or news headlines. So what to do?
That’s where Pingie comes in. Pingie is an online application that takes website posts and RSS feeds, and sends them via text message to just about any cell phone (Internet enabled or not). This free service is really easy to use, just enter your email address, phone number, and the website or RSS feed that you want it to pull information from. Don’t worry, all of your information will be safe, I’ve never gotten any spam or ads sent to my cell or email from Pingie.

That’s basically all you have to do. Once you set it up, Pingie will keep sending you information until you tell it to stop. Standard text rates still apply, but Pingie is free to use.
One useful thing I used Pingie for was getting updates from Craigslist. That enabled me to know as soon as something new was posted. There are many possibilities. Even If you do have a data plan, Pingie will save you the “hassle” of firing up your mobile web browser and going to the actual site.
If you think you’ll find Pingie useful, give it a try and let us know what you think in the comments. If you’ve already discovered Pingie, let us know what you use it for. And If you know of another application that does the same thing better, we would love to hear about it.
