The T-Mobile Smartphone Community
Touch Pro2 Coming Sooner than Expected?
Taking a quick look at T-Mobile’s Current Lineup (click on ‘T-Mobile’) won’t reveal anything new except that something is missing? Can you guess what it is? The Wing is gone! A quick tip of the hat to an old favorite and we begin wringing our hands in anticipation. The last time this happened it was only a short time after the Shadow disappeared that the UMA Shadow showed up. Whether it’s going to be called the Wing 2, Touch Pro2 or Magic Eye Candy Muffin Stomper remains to be seen. It might show up for preordering or it just might show up for sale. Whatever the case you can be rest assured we’re on it. We’ll let you know as soon as it shows up. You can also check our RSS feeds or on Twitter. Let the games begin!

We will maintain this website for the TP2 as well. That’s why we changed the slogan to ‘The T-Mobile Smarthphone Community’. There will be a slight interface change coming with some buttons across the top of the page so you can click on WinMo Standard, WinMo, Pro, or Android to filter the news.

This just means they are not selling it online buyers. There’s no reason to release it any sooner than when they said since the new Sidekick is still being promoted on their front page.

Hey I have a small quick question. Does OMAP work on the Shadow? If so, can I have a link to it? That would be great! Thanks!

Josh, it’s really hard to say. We know what the TP2 is going to look like and we have a rendering of the G1 v2 but it’s not set in stone. IF the G1v2 had the same guts as the G1 and office document support then it would be an almost even match. If you want the ability to work with Office Documents and actual be productive then right now I would say go with the TP2. Android hasn’t developed into a business ready OS yet, or at least the right apps don’t exist.

ShadowFan, yes the Shadow has an OMAP processor. Which is a type of Texas Instruments Processor. Very early versions of Windows phones known as Pocket PC’s had different processors and some would only support applications written for that specific processor. Pretty much anything written for Windows Mobile today will work on newer phones. You just have to be sure you are getting the right version.
For example, the Shadow runs Windows Mobile Standard because it doesn’t have a touch screen. Windows Mobile phones with touch screens run Windows Mobile Professional. Most WinMo Pro apps will not run correctly on WinMo Standard phones. However you can get a lot of WinMo Standard apps to work on WinMo Pro Phones.
Hope this helps! You can also see the Shadow’s Specs at http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1388&c=t-mobile_shadow_2009_htc_converse_100

mike, im not much of a business type but i was wondering if the apps on android are actually worth it because i need a new phone and love wimo on my shadow but heard android is worth a try.
do you think the apps would be a selling point?
becuase other than that and the camera the tp2 is looking just as good as g1 v2 and coming out earlier

I’m interested in seeing this phone, but this has a weird resolution. Most windows mobile apps use qvga or vga. For instance, skyfire won’t run on the samsung omnia (240×400) unless you run an app first to change the resolution, but then you have a black bar running across the bottom of the screen. With the tp2 being 480×800, a lot of apps may not work.
