Pictured above is a G1 running a terminal window. A number of people have managed to get various versions running and Paolo Sammicheli has one of the more comprehensive guides. If you have an intense burning need to run Ubuntu on your G1, multiple workspaces and all check out the links at the end.

Having the ability to do this unlocks all sorts of other possibilities. While the G1’s processor and RAM will limit much of the possible applications this hack leads to a much more useful smartphone.
