Google Labs is working on a podcast catcher/player that is available for Android. It lets you search, subscribe, download and stream. You can subscribe to search terms and it will automatically create an ‘audio magazine’ for you that is automatically updated everytime you listen. It’s worth checking out and be found in the Android More >

There is a lot of commotion going around about the Nexus One. Who would have thought all those years ago that a search engine would be releasing their own phone? Chuong tells us it has passed through the FCC with support for T-Mobile’s 3G network and no sign of support for the AT&T bands so More >

Dom2684 has put together a concise tutorial in the Android Forums on how to create more ‘internal memory’ for Android Apps on your G1, myTouch and other Android phones. Basically it involves creating an ext2 partition on a memory card that tricks Android into thinking it has more internal memory. Unlike a certain iPhone 3G, More >

I already tried PDANET and it works really good, I don’t use it much because it still slow comparing to real broadband service but it’s a remedy for occasional use.

Cool idea, but I keep getting USB errors either after a few seconds or a few minutes and I have to connect and re-connect again. Very annoying, and I don’t know if it’s my computer or my phone.

Haha. I love this thing even though sometimes it drags. Since i dont “officialy” have wifi at home for my lap top, this comes in handy when i lose the wifi connection that i “borrow” from the neighborhood. take that ATT lol.

Works perfectly!!! Haven’t had a single issue!! Also T-Mobile has a “throttling” limit that is currently set at 10 GB. At least that’s what the tech rep told me when I called to ask about it. That could change… but who knows!!! This is gonna work great for my road trip next week!!

wireless tether works better, and you can have your phone charging. your 3g will share thru wifi much more convient then plugging in a usb cable, only have to download using your g1 browser. once you start wireless tethering just go into your computers wifi connections and choose G1tether to connect.

That method requires root access on your phone. This page is about tethering without having to root your phone.

I installed pdanet for Android 1.17 on my G1 on TMobile. When I tether, I get between 125K-144K download speeds in Hollywood CA. When tested with the network tool on the phone, it shows 400+K. There is a noticeable difference in speed. I happen to have a AT&T Blackjack II to test tethering too, and I got 480K download on the same Vista-Business laptop. I have not gone over 1GB in G1 usage at his point in the month (about 200MB based on the TMo website account info). Anyone experiencing the speed difference on the phone vs when tethered?

wow, it worked, impressive.

Whenever I try to D/L, it says unsuccessful, not supported
Running firmware V1.6
Build DRC83
Any ideas? Would really rather not try to root hack.

OK guys, heres the deal….those of you trying to tether on your G1, you have to have a minimum of 1.5 (cupcake) to get the tethering to work. I was running 1.1 and couldn’t get squat so I ended up manually updating the firmware. I use PDA Net and it serves it purpose. May seem slower than dial up at time, but serves the purpose none the less.

I just downloaded this app shut off my wifi connections and connected flawlessly with my G1. BUT the app says bluetooth is not available unless you have 2.0 OS installed. I tried updating mine with no luck. It appears t-Mobile has not distributed this yet. Anyway to get around this?

I need some good advice from all of you Technofiles out there. I am computer savvy, yet very afraid to root my G1 and no idea what to do after I root the thing. I just ordered the Ipad which will arrive on my doorstep in a little over a week. I got the WiFi version because I already pay for a monthly data plan with my Tmo-G1. All of the posts I have seen about tethering a G1 to an Ipod touch are from 2009 and they all require root access. Has no one come out with a way to get my G1’s 3G access to power the Ipad without root? I am open to anything that doesn’t have me hacking into my phone’s brain too severly…

Yeah, I use pdanet myself. Pull anywhere from 1.25 to 1.5 mbps in 3g area. Non 3g is around 768k. I fudged up and got the 2.1v3 leak sooo no root for me yet? Please Devs. Help a guy out haha.
Any how on broadband compared to this I really see no difference in browsing speed. Sometimes tether actually seems faster during peak day hours. My mom is contemplating on getting the Eris as well just for this reason. Cancel ATT and Just go 3g. It’s convenient however, to bad no talky talky while browsing the web. Stupid Verizon.. Their phones have FINALLyY started getting better though!
