Delacerda points out that the Dash Black is now available online. Benji says it’s in the stores now. After taking a quick look at the specs it appears the improvement is WinMo 6.0/1 and the black faceplate. JellyBelly asks “why does htc even make this phone?” Hopefully this sheds some light on the subject. I believe the Dash to be an entry level Smarpthone. Simply meaning it is a gateway phone for those that just need some basic functionality along with heavy messaging. While the Shadow is a low to mid level phone (even though the Dash costs more as of this writing). Higher end phones do cost more and pack more of a punch for the tech enthusiast. There are pros and cons to each type of phone and preferences differ per consumer. I do have a dash and sometimes I just roll with it versus carrying the G1, Shadow, Wing or my trusty, bomb-proof t68i. If I’m working or schooling I will carry the higher end phone but if I’m off on an adventure where things can get messy I’ll take a “losable” phone. How about you?

Would be great if the WM 6.1 ROM for the new Dash works on the previous one.

The Dash is little more than a good spare phone if something goes wrong with your primary device and it has to be sent in for repairs.

It’s mentioned here as a candidate for an entry level smartphone, but I’d disagree. I know users who purchased it for just that, but then became frustrated with the lag, especially with messaging. Gripe #1: when typing a message, often what’s typed doesn’t immediately display, causing the user to think it didn’t register, they retype and then it all catches up and they have a bunch of duplicate typing and unexpected typos. Entry level users wind up finding the Dash a deterrent for WM in general.

Also, if you stick a microSD card over 1GB in the Dash, you run into that spontaneous rebooting issue, which at its worst, causes the Dash to go into a rebooting loop that is >very< frustrating — hopefully, that’s one of the bug-fixes in the refreshed version of the Dash.

With a faster processor, GPS, and 3G the Dash could easily be T-Mobile’s answer to ATT’s BlackJack 2. Currently, T-Mobile doesn’t compete with any other major carrier as far as Windows Mobile is concerned — they carry 2005 technolgy; a trend that unfortunately continues with the upcoming release of the antiquated-at-launch Shadow-2 :(

I think this is really upsetting that t-mobile can’t come out with any phones that are actually “new” and not a refresh. I mean even the blackjack 2 looks better then the dash and has more features.

This phone blows. Go check it on the tmobile website, its got a same outdated 1.3 mega pixel camera for a “smart phone wannabe”, and not even a 3g and its a “brandnew phone” and its $100 or even $150 when you pay first and with tax you pay like $160 at the counter and plus you need to pay one month of data plan to get the $50 data plan so,, yea.
“Same old 200MHz TI OMAP850 processor, same paltry 64MB RAM, same 2.4″ screen (not a bad thing), same EDGE/WiFi,”
good luck dash lol, you just jumped in a black pool and came back out.
