I think that this feature of the Shadow has been overlooked, and it’s a pretty cool one. UMA, or Unlicensed Mobile Access, will not only reduce your phone bill, but may lead you to replace your home phone with your cell phone if you haven’t done so already. The Shadow II will be the only Windows Mobile phone so far to have this feature.

Basically, UMA will allow you to use your phone regularly when you are not near WiFi, so, if you’re on a call, you are using your minutes. Then, when you get home, or when you’re at one of T-Mobile’s 8,000 hotspots, your call will seamlessly jump onto the WiFi network, and you won’t use any of your minutes. There is a $10 flat fee associated with using UMA on T-Mobile, but after you pay that fee each month, you can use your phone an unlimited amount over WiFi. For more on this, check out T-Mobile’s website that talks about T-Mobile @Home. Also, thanks to Windows for Devices for the nice UMA elaboration.
