Amazon Prepping Unbox Client for Android
While playing with Amazon’s Unbox service this weekend I noticed something strange. When viewing the Unbox video library through a browser, selecting a video and going to the Download options that my G1 android is listed. I do have it signed up on Amazon MP3 and that works great so that explains how they have the G1’s information. Amazon has my G1 listed as a Video download destination along with a laptop and Tivo of mine. Selecting it gives an error right now which makes sense because there is no Unbox client available in the Market yet. However could this be the next coolest thing with OTA entertainment? I fired off an email to Amazon inquiring further but haven’t received any response back yet.
Amazon Unbox is a service which allows for watching online video of movies and tv shows on demand. The quality is great and the service nearly flawless. If they bring this to the Android platform how many of you will take advantage of this?
Give Your Phone Your Own Flavor

Custom backgrounds, cases, bling chains, and glue on sparkles might not be enough for some of us. Sometimes we have the need to take it to the next level. Well T-Mobile feels your pain, T-Mobile wants you to tag up your phone beyond all recognition and claim it as your own. You can create custom skins online and have them in your mailbox within a few days. You can whip one up in less than a few minutes for everything from your G1 and Shadow to a Laptop or your Tivo (of all things). You can overlap images with icons (like the skull teeth on the urban camo) or upload your own images (like the suave looking character on the right). Most are around $14.95 and are available from TMobileskins.com.
InvisibleShield on your G1: Good News if You Mess it Up

Tremendo Slap started a thread in the forums that talks about the Zagg InvisibleShield for the G1 that costs $24.95. For those that don’t know, InvisibleShield is a very thin film that you apply to the front and back of your device to help protect it.

But what if you apply it wrong? Here’s the good news, brought to us by SHADOWNU-B:
I had a chat with one of the zagg reps, and they have a 1 time courtesy replacement for any installation that goes wrong. all you do is pay for shipping $3.95. you send your old one back and your warranty (lifetime stays active) this is a one time deal only so use it wisely :). all you have to do is go on the live chat with them and tell them you didn’t do the installation right and they will guide you though doing it right. if all else fails they offer the free replacement.
This is good news for anyone considering the InvisibleShield. Thanks for the news tip, ShadowMike.

Bronze G1 Out of Stock, Black on Low Supply, Where’s the White?
Anyone wishing to order the Bronze (Google Brown) G1 will be saddened to see that it is temporarily out of stock and the that Black G1 is in limited supply. Wave after wave of G1s have been ordered and I know a few people are holding out for the White G1 which is supposed to be available around the Holidays. If you are waiting for the Shadow 2/II, per our previous article you will have to wait till after the Holidays.
The White G1 should look pretty new after a month or so of use. My Bronze (Google Brown) G1 has taken quite a few drops as has the Black One. Both still wipe clean of any dirt of face or finger oil.
Shadow 2/II Coming…

Next year. Yes, that’s right; several of our sources say the Shadow 2 won’t be here in time for the Holidays so don’t expect it to magically show up. Some sources say it will be let loose in January while others have the date being pushed back later in the first quarter. Whatever the date is, the unveiling of the G1 has us wondering what T-Mobile could do to pump up Shadow fans about the big Dos. We haven’t seen anything Shadowesque coming through the FCC under any code names lately, so does that mean the hardware we know about is going to stay as is? Will there be a significant OS upgrade? Will the Shadow 2/II sport Windows Mobile 7?
If you have the original and were holding out for the Shadow II, don’t fret - we have a ton of ways to modify the original Shadow to make it really powerful and customized (through our Wiki and Forums), and if you don’t want to wait any longer to upgrade, you could always jump to the G1.
As most long time AllShadow community members know, a phone doesn’t have to be touch screen to be highly functional and/or powerful. Do you think T-Mobile is revamping the hardware for something a bit more modern? What do you think they are cramming under the hood Software-wise so the Shadow 2/II isn’t yet another bad sequel? Let us know in the comments…
Have You Upgraded to WinMo 6.1?
There was never an official Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade issues for the Shadow, but that doesn’t stop you from getting it on your phone. Running Windows Mobile 6.1 on your Shadow adds sliding panels, threaded SMS, a new version of Pocket IE, and some other little things. Have you upgraded yet? If not, the 6.1 section of our wiki is a good place to start to find out how =D!

Shadow Registry Hack: Animate Your Windows
There’s a quick and easy registry hack that will give you an animation every time you open a program (that of a box expanding on the screen). It may slow down program launching slightly, but if you’re not in a hurry, it could be a nice little tweak to add some flash to your Shadow. Using a registry editor, navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE:Animate
And change from 0 to 1, then soft reset.
Thanks to Bwana the Iguana for posting the thread!

A Review of the G1 from a WinMo Power User

There are many G1 reviews out there, but just one that I can think of that covers the G1 experience from the perspective of a Windows Mobile power user. It’s written by Adam Lein from pocketnow.com, our sister site, and includes a lot of great pictures and screenshots. Essentially, he contends that from his perspective, the G1 is fraught with limitations. On page 3 he racks up a huge list of things the G1 can’t do: no word completion when typing, no file manager, no Exhange sync, no sync with anything except Google, no video recording, and so on.
I think many would agree with his claims. That said, the G1 has so far been well received from anyone not fitting into the category of “Windows Mobile” power user - the prospect of an open source operating system with a plethora of great applications that we’re already seeing (and that Mike has been writing about) - is exciting.
That said, there are some among the AllShadow community that are WinMo power users - those that modify ROMs and create theme and registry hacks. And to be honest, those fitting into that category may be disappointed by the G1. But you already knew that. For the average “Shadow Enthusiast” (new term!) that comes to this site, you’ll probably find the G1 to be a really fantastic device with many capabilities that your Shadow doesn’t have.
So - G1 converts, tell us, are you happy you made the switch to the G1, or are you at all disappointed by its limitations in comparison to Windows Mobile?
Got Twitter? Got G1?
For the Twitter fans out there with G1’s you are in luck. Twidroid (formally known as Twitroid) is an actively and well developed app. You can tweet or post photos to twitter from your phone as well as check up on friends and the people you are following. When minimized it will also run in the background and give you the option of vibrating or audible alerts. The interface is smooth and well thought out. If you twitter then you must check out Twidroid. It’s free and available in the Market or in our newly redesigned store.
Shadow Owners check out Tiny Twitter you’ll love it!
TIP:Â When downloading G1 software choose to have an email sent to your Gmail account that the phone is logged into
