Review: moBlue

Today we have a special treat from ShadowMike aka Mike Kononow

What Was Wanted ?
I was looking for a bluetooth alternative to receiving files from devices to a location on my phone that I wanted to pick instead of the default phone memory location. The application also had to be easy to use, easy on the eyes, and it must work BETTER than the default bluetooth file manager.

Keep reading if this is what you’re looking for as well.

Install
moBlue comes with a .CAB Phone Installer.
For the Phone Installer, Download the .cab file and using active sync copy the cab file to a place you will remember (I recommend \Storage Card\CABS\) Open file explorer and then open the cab, Follow on screen instructions.

Settings
Settings Bluetooth Modes: (Discoverable, Connectable, Power Off)

Settings moBlue Options : (Settings)
The Program Settings for moBlue allow you to Start and Exit the program in either of the 3 Bluetooth Modes, Auto Accept Beams , and Confirm when exiting the program.

Settings moBlue Options: (File Filters)
The File Filters is what makes this program, and being free makes this program even better.

To start off the program is default at saving everything to the phones memory so we need to set it up to our own standards.
The first *.* are for any type of file that’s not filtered and will be put were you want it.
The second set are music file types I have mine set to save these at \Storage Card\My Documents\
The third set are for video file types and I have mine set to \Storage Card\My Documents\My Video\
The fourth set are for pictures also set for my storage card .
The final defaults set are for text files and these as well are set for my storage card.

After the initial set up you may want to add a couple more filers to the list. I added .rar and .zip files also.

Messing with it.
Pair your shadow using the device you are going to send the files from and send the file or files to your shadow. As long as the filters are setup correctly they will all be sent to your shadow to their correct places on your phone.

Does it make the Shadow Better?
Definitely, This program allows you to setup WHERE your beamed files will end up being saved to. It also allows you to save any space from being taken up on your phones flash memory by switching save locations to the storage card if you desire.

Pros

* More information about the file being sent to your phone then the default HTC/Microsoft screen
* Custom save locations for any type of file format, setup using filters
* Running this in the background doesn’t seem to slow down the shadow at all.

Cons

* Some menus take a while to load, like the save to menu while customizing the save path in the filter settings.

What should the developer add to it?
I would like the developer add a on the fly save as option so you can save a file in a separate folder as the file is being beamed to your phone.

Is it what was wanted?
This is exactly what was wanted and more with file type filters, your phone won’t be cluttered by incoming beams anymore.

Want to try it out and use this great program ?
A download can be found here at the authors main page is hejhej.org. (Choose Smartphone for the Shadow or any other WM6 Standard Phones)

I give it 4 and a half Shadows.
