Jott, Evernote, Windows Mobile, and You

You remember the posts on Jott and Evernote right? Well I had a thought in mind that it should be possible to Jott to Evernote (JTE) making life all that much easier. What would I JTE? For starters, any small bit of information I might need later for reference such as a note, address, phone number, email address and so on. The list is really endless.

Apparently I was not the only one to see the potential. Phil Libin on the Evernote blog was about to write about it but was beat to the punch by Brad Isaac at LifeHacker. As with many How-To’s involving betas sometimes the flow changes a bit and since this site is about the Shadow I’m rewriting the steps and adding in a dash of AllShadow. Keep reading or suffer the consequences…

Note: This article assumes that you have read about or use Jott and Evernote as well as understand what each is about.

The Steps

You will need a Jott and Evernote account. Jott is no longer in beta but Jott Basic (the free version) should work. If you haven’t already, get those setup and working then come back for the rest.

Go to your Evernote account and click on Settings, scroll down a bit and grab the custom Evernote email address provided under the ‘Emailing your memories’ section.

Now go to your Jott page, click on My Account, then the Email tab on the left and then click on Add New Email Address. Insert your Custom Evernote email into the new field and press the Add button.

Jott will send a verification email which will show up in your Evernote Notebook in a few minutes. Once it shows up go to the link that is provided.

You should see two email addresses now in Jott. The one you signed up with and your new Evernote custom email. Make sure to check the box for ‘Confirmation emails’ for the Evernote email or this won’t work. Because I don’t like spamming myself I don’t check ‘Confirmation emails’ for my primary account, but you can if it pleases you.

Congratulations! You are all set up to Jott to Evernote (JTE) using your voice. Now when you Jott a note it will automatically show up in Evernote for you to do what you want with it.

Extra Tips:

  • Download and install the Windows Mobile version of Evernote to take full advantage of the interconnectivity. Now when you JTE you can pull it up in Evernote on your Shadow later when you need it.
  • Add Jott as a contact in your phone
  • Add Jott as a speed dial so you can quickly get things done.
  • Install the Jott for Outlook plugin on your PC and Jott yourself appointments, tasks and email drafts that will sync with your Shadow smartphone later.

Enjoy!
