Many of you are aware that the T-mobile is equipped with access to POP, IMAP, and other personal accounts. Some of you may not know that the has the capability to deliver to your device and is a great asset to keep you connected at work. Windows Mobile 6 has many features included in the service including syncing your Inbox, Sent items, Calendar, Tasks, Reminders and the ability to view a variety of attached files. It really makes the a solid communication tool.

Key Features:

  • Easy to setup and use
  • Various syncing options
  • Create and accept Meeting requests and Calendar events
  • Create and view Outlook reminders and dismiss/snooze them
  • Search your company’s contact database from your phone

General Use:

Setting up your is particularly easy on the with the built-in setup in the Start Menu. From the Homescreen, select Start > Setup- > Outlook.

Enter Server Address which is usually mail.(company name).com. Check the box for SSL connection > Next.

You will be asked to enter the username and password used to access your work computer and Domain name. Tip: Domain name and server address are provided by your company so call your Network Administrator to receive this information. Check Save password > Next. On the next screen, Select All > Finish.

You’re done with the initial setup. Interesting fact: Windows Mobile allows you to access your corporate mail without permission from your company. This is not the case with many other smartphones namely the Blackberry.

At this point only your inbox will sync with . To sync your sent items, Return to the Homescreen > Start. Open your existing outlook mail account and Select Menu > Folders >Menu again > Manage folders. Go to Sent Items folder and use the right soft key to sync.

You now have your sent items! Interesting Fact #2: The T-mobile technical support tech I spoke with didn’t even know this was possible and I really value the ability to view sent items. By playing around with the settings, you can uncover many things on your own so experiment a little.

Now from the homescreen, go to Start > ActiveSync > Menu > Schedule.
By selecting “as items arrive”, your will sync the instant it hits the server.

This is very useful especially if you are out of the office and want to stay connected as if you are at your desk.
Tip: the battery will drain more rapidly so I personally set mine to sync every 30 minutes during work hours. No point in getting twice at your desk.

To setup Auto Signature, go to Homescreen and select Start > Messaging > Outlook E-mail > Menu >Tools > Options > Signatures. Check the next boxes to include it on all replies and forwarded emails.

Meeting requests and reminders will also sync with your device giving you the ability to:

  • Accept/Create meetings
  • View/add/dismiss/snooze reminders.

Add a meeting to Outlook by selecting Start > Calendar > Menu > New Appointment. This calendar event will be added to your PC at work upon synchronization.

Reminders

  • Make sure to call your Network Administrator to get your Server Address and Domain name.
  • requires T-mobile’s $19.99 Total Internet Plan.
  • Searching Outlook is seamless using Windows Mobile. All you need to do is start typing the search request within Outlook and it will search To and Subject and classify them for your review. This is a great tool to find an quickly. To searching company contacts, Select To > Company Directory. A search field will open allowing you to enter the last name of the corporate contact you seek and run the search. It will find them in the contact list.
  • You can CC and BCC additional people when creating a new by scrolling up in the . These are hidden so you need to scroll up to see them.

With your newly created account, you will be able be more productive on the move. As you can see, it is quick to setup and use. So work less, spend more time with your family and friends and stay connected.

You really don’t need the $19.99 Total Internet plan to sync with an exchange server. You can follow the guide on my blog to see how to do it with the $5.99 plan.

You can also set up an Exchange sync partnership from the Activesync application.

Cam, thanks for the tip but we have that here in our forums in many forms :) http://allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2155 for starters.

Our forum has many answers to nearly every question, as a resource I highly suggest using it as it was built by the AllShadow community for the AllShadow community.

First off, thanks for all the great info offered on this site. After reading this article I was wondering if I can sync the Shadow with Lotus Notes. I would love to know that this is possible…please tell me ‘Yes!’

Mike,

I didn’t know that that question was in the forums, or I thought it would have been addressed in the article. Just trying to help :)

Hello Cameron.

Thanks for bringing this up. I think it’s more appropriate in the forums since the 5.99 method is more of a work around than a standard practice. But thanks for providing this information.

Hmm I think I need to connect through a VPN to get this to work- Even with my laptop outside of the office, have to get on VPN first, which I know nothing about setting up.

Anyone know how to set it up on my Shadow?

I have been trying this over and over with no success. I continue to get an error code:80072f7d. I am unable to get mail pushed to me and get that error code when I try to desktop sync. Our network support company is telling me that there is special software that is needed to be bought….VPN??
Great tool if I can get it to work, thanks much, hope to hear back

I find it interesting that many of these interfaces are starting to look identical.
