i signed up for the beta 1 phase months and months ago.. i got an email yesterday saying that it was ready to download, but when i clicked on their link, it said that the beta registration was filled and i had to wait for the beta 2 phase!!!

so many many thanks to Kareem for hooking it up with the promo code!! i’m installing skyfire on my shadow right now

Hey guys, I dunno if any one else experienced this but when I downloaded it (from my Shadow), and launched the cab. file, it said that the download was uncuccesful. The way to fix that is when it asks do you wanna download the cab., first go MENU > Rename, and put the extension “.cab” without the quotes (I know it does that automatically but thats the only thing that helped me) and then it will put another .CAB at the end with caps, and then you should download it.

The only set back I noticed so far is its a little slow, no biggy, I prefer it over Opera Mini and PIE. It’ll be my default browser for now.

I signed up to the nets a few weeks ago. sf will not let me resign up or log in. the old sms still takes me to the beta at capacity page. where and how can I use this code to get sf?

Is it me or the code provided does not work 4 me… cuz i did everything that was said and i put the promotion code that was given… and still nuttin.. all i got was a skyfire email saying, thanx 4 signing up for Sky beta 2.. we will send u a sms when beta 2 is available.. I’m like WHAT?.. i did this long time ago.. isn’t the code suppose to give U instant download.. i don’t get it.. Got all happy 4 no reason!!!

I just now tried it too and it tells me that the installation was unsuccessful. The file it prompts me to download is Skyfire_4721_SMP50.CAB. Is that the right one?

yeah even after i changed the extension to .cab it still said it was unsuccessful. Any suggestions?

i got skyfire the first try in like two min.. with the promotional code. no problems

so, so far I’ve been able to watch youtube videos using this browser, just without sound, and im using wifi at my house. of course, before with the standard browser, it wouldn’t load video. so its no extra charge for me if im using skyfire right? anyway I can get sound to come through too?

Instructions don’t work, there’s no field for “promotional code”. If you meant the “Beta Code” field, you should say that, and link to the correct page. Are we talking about the URL: http://www.skyfire.com/sign-up/beta2/step2 ? If so, there’s no “promotional code” there and even when I try to enter the code into the “Beta Code” field, it still doesn’t work, it just adds me to the beta list or says I’m already signed up.

I like Skyfire, it’s easy to use and will take you to areas of the web that Pocket IE cannot display. But needs to: 1) toggle into landscape mode, 2) to save pictures and files, before it can become a full time product.

i had no problem installing this, code worked great, got the text message real quick, and internet is really fast with wifi. videos work fine, but this will not work with the proxy hack, atleast i cant get it to work.

Well done Kareem! I was able to use the code and also had Skyfire in like two minutes. Very easy. I really like it. I think it is pretty awesome. Two questions. 1. Does anyone elses phone get pretty hot surfing with Skyfire. And 2. As your default browser isn’t there too much Zooming in and out? I mean for certain things it is terrific. But for me it seems like some things are just easier with pocket internet explorer…..however I am new to Skyfire! Again, this site is the best.

whenever im using the wifi for extended periods of time, like surfing the net or watching online video, i do notice my shadow gets pretty hot. i’ve had my shadow since it was released late last year and it still works great, so i hope the overheating wont lead to anything * knock on wood*. as for too much zooming, i tend to agree. with opera mini, the shortcut keys made it easy to perform zooming in and out. with skyfire, i like the different scales of zooming in and out, but instead of the zoom box, it should just scale the screen already.

i am a little put off by the very long load times and screen refreshing/rendering though. even when i just want to go back to the start page, or view my bookmarks, if feels like minutes before the pages load, even on wifi!? anyone else experience this?

There are several problems with this beta and Skyfire is being made aware of them by testers. One of the biggest issues so far has been the battery drainage/device getting extremely hot. Also, you cant download web content like pictures with the browser. Try logging on the the forums at the skyfire web site if you have questions or comments about the browser. Chances are that the issue you are concerned about has already been addressed thoroughly.

One tester recommended using a technology similar to google maps where you are zoomed in to a portion of the screen but in the background the areas around it load. So incrementally the entire screen will load if you are on a site long enough. This sounds like a top solution to me.

@Vlad you were not dl the actual cab, i made the same mistake, on the same page where it says “download” in the far left corner it also says download click that, it waill give you 3 options, non touch, touch and symbian choose non touch thats the cab you need, the button you were pushing was to get the sms sent to your phone but for some reason it downloads a unusable rar file, hope this helps

Cool well it is good to know it’s not only my phone that gets hot. It is a very cool although. I did notice that at home on WiFi it was pretty quick. However, at home I could just use my home pc. Overall I am happy that I have it as another option. PE will still be my default browser but Skyfire will get used also. Does anyone else have any thoughts on the overheating thing? Does it do any damage?

Most of you guys should check out the wiki page of skyfire; it explains what skyfire is. Upon reading it you will notice it is not a real browser, it is sent through their servers to your phone and formated to show the website. In turn if their servers are “hammered” then it will load slowly. Also, I am not sure If I would trust SSL because you are not directly connected to the SSL website. The best reason to use skyfire is because it requires no codecs at all to play video and sound works great on it. Now we can actually use youtube and xtube to play streaming video and it does play very good. Any basic questions are already answered on the wiki page. BTW Skyfire is great! Does anyone know how they will keep this service free? I think that at some point they will need to charge or at least put ads up on their homepage in order to pay for their costs.

My bad last time I checked it out on wiki it had a lot more info on it… oh well.

Doesn’t work, I don’t get any type of text message. Tried to request a new text message about 50 times, nothing.

Used their system to change my phone number, signed up again with a different email address, and still only get the email, no text message on my phone.

Maybe someone could supply the link that they get in the text message for a direct link to the download as obviously their system isn’t working correctly.

Or, maybe I’m on totally the wrong page as there isn’t a “soecial promotional code” field on the link given in this post. Is it http://www.skyfire.com/sign-up? If so, there’s no “special promotional code” field there. After clicking on two different lnks, I get to the signup page, which I assume is where you should be, but again, no “special promotional code” there either.

Well after trying for the 100th time.. i finally got the sms to download the cab… The messed up part is that i had to tell my friends to expect a skyfire sms to their fone, since the sms wasn’t coming through my fone for watev reason.. i register so many #’s on my phonebook.. lol.. but i finally got it 2 work on my cuzin #.. i told her 2 forward the sms to my fone.. N der i have it skyfire @ last… lol..
For those ppl that is having trouble receiving the sms, just do wat i did.. register ur friends number N see which # will the sms go through..

i really need help i tried to download to my pc by clicking on download on the left side tried to send it to my phone never received it, i trasfered cab to my phone still, i tried a 100 times still nt does any know on how to fix it , when i download cab to my pc the file is only 455 kl i’ve heard is 477kl does tht have to do with something?

This browser is great ofcousrse cuz u can practically do anything on it like the same way u would use ur laptop/desktop.. but on the T-mobile Shadow its horrible and kind of slow.. I guess ima have to upgrade to the At&t tilt.. plus it looks betta on the tilt anyway!!

Too bad their site never sends me the text link. How about someone hooking me up with the link you get in the text message. I’ve tried sending it to 3 different phones, never get a text message.

the shadow is pretty much a device to me I just let my sideikick Lx go for it but i would like to first thank you all even including allshadow for making my experience with the shadow outstanding (and to think I was actually about to go back to blackberry) I think this is the best browser I have ever used now my question I seen someone said they were setting it as a default browser. how would I go about doing that so I don’t have to continue to give my login info email me if you can help at noah11@mail2web.com

i never recieve the confermation sms after the sign up i even tried to re send the sms any tips i really want this browser

Ryan, I have standard monthly servies with T-Mobile and don’t get the SMS from Skyfire, from any of my 3 phones with T-Mobile. All phones have messaging on with nothing disabled (we have unlimited family texting). My son sends thousands of SMS messages a month and he didn’t get the SMS messages from Skyfire. Something isn’t right, and it has nothing to do with flex pay, it’s something broken with Skyfire’s server.

For those of you that have the sms problems, It says u need to have web-based SMS (text) messages enabled on your phone(What ever that is) to received the download from them. I got this information from the Skyfire forums.. Maybe u should call T-mobile and ask if web based SMS is enable or is even on your account..

I have all kinds of messaging turned on, nothing is blocked.

Without inputting the code, all that will happen is you get signed up for the beta, which means you will get the SMS whenever they decide to send it to you, could be right away, could be in a few months. Took them 2 months before they sent it to me, and I signed up for the first beta when it was first announced.

Where are people getting these codes? Maybe if someone would share the source, there wouldn’t be this confusion.

Or better yet, just supply the text message, or the download link! But no, that would be too logical.

I’m pretty sure the link supplied in the SMS message is a one time use link, otherwise everyone would already have it.

Can skyfire be used without the wifi?

Worked perfectly for me twice once on my wife’s Shadow and the again on mine Woot!!! And youtube works perfect

I received a text on my phone, downloaded the program and it worked for three days. Now it won’t work. I keep getting this message that reads,”Network timed out while trying to connect. You may be in an area of limited or no data coverage. Please try again later.” Is anyone else having the same problem and know how to fix it?

Timothy H. ~~~ that’s the message i was getting but it was due to poor signal strength when my wifi isn’t on. I just tried it at work and it came up with no problem cause i had full signal strenth w/out wifi on.

So Timothy and Keyla I got that message too. So, I decided to turn the phone off then back on again thinking that would help…..but my phone locked up on me and I had to remove the battery. After about an hour and a half of tense battery removing and restarting my phone finally came back on. Don’t know if it’s related or not but be careful.

The reason there seems to be a lot of confusion is many different scenarios for each user.

1. Signed up and waiting for the first Beta: you should already have skyfire working by now. If you don’t have beta code already follow the step in #2.

2. Signed up for Beta 2 or attempted to sign up for this and didn’t get it right.

* First, goto the skyfire “LOGIN” page - http://www.skyfire.com/support/login - and choose “if you need to change your phone number” and change the number to anything you want. I used my wife’s so I can still get beta2

* Second, sign up again using a DIFFERENT email and your correct cell number. Be sure to use the code Michael8 for the “BETA CODE”

* Third, Verify your registration by clicking link in the SMS sent to your phone by Skyfire. It should take you to the website on your phone where you can now download the cab file to your phone.

3. Never attemted to sign up: skip the first step in the instructions above.

Hey I downloaded Skyfire from rapid share. I just cant log on into it because i dont have a passcode. Does any one have a generic one they can share? Or can anyone make up an email address and give us the name/pass so we can access skyfire? If someone is bold enough to do so please reply.
