Jott: Taking Handsfree to a New Level
Have you ever been walking along (or driving) and frantically trying to put down an appointment, phone number, message, to do item or reminder and wished there was an easier way. This very action (and highly dangerous at times) led me to find a better way. I debated posting about this. We try to mostly stick to apps, hacks, tips and tricks that deal with the Shadow and Windows Mobile Standard/Smartphone. However I found Jott to be such an incredibly useful service with many possibilities that I had to share it with you.
EDIT: I forgot to mention the voice recognition that Jott uses because it works so well that you’ll forget you’re talking to a computer. You really have to try it out.
How I Use Jott

It took about 2 minutes to sign up for Jott but to reap full benefits you will need to put in some numbers and set up ‘lists’ and groups. I added the people I communicate with the most to Jott first and then created ‘groups’ of people that I tend to try and communicate with all the time. For example if you have a select group of friends that all hang out together and you spend a lot of time communicating between each other you can add them as a group and Jott them all at once. You would dial Jott, say Friends, confirm and say your message. Jott automatically sends a message to all those people. This is very handy in business when you need to disseminate a lot of information to many people fast. You can also Jott yourself a to do list item or a reminder. You can set the time and date and Jott will send you a text/email when the time arrives.
Calendars! Jott can add appointments to your Google Calendar. Which, if you think about it, can extend the functionality as far as you want to go. For example, if you use Outlook all the time and are constantly handling appointments you can setup Google Calendar Sync with Outlook and link Jott to your Google Calendar. Then all you have to do is Jott an appointment and it will show up on your Calendar(s) automatically. In a business environment this can go so far with shared calendars (even Google Shared Calendars). Throw in some Exchange Sync action and you’ve got a brilliant setup.
It’s not all suits and ties though. Jott can integrate with any number of other Web 2.0 services and social-networks (haven’t seen a facebook Jott yet but I’ll keep looking). For example, twitter, remember the milk, I Want Sandy, Yahoo Groups, Trapster, Tsheets, most of the major blogging platforms and more. What I got a kick out of was being able to Jott an RSS feed. You can call in and LISTEN to an RSS feed.
This is an example of how Jott post messages to your friends and family. It’s easy and it only takes a few seconds with your phone. listen

Above is an example of how a Jott to AllShadow.com shows up. At first glance it seems simple, and it’s supposed to be, but upon further consideration it has a lot of power to make your life easier. So stop reading already and go try Jott.

WOW… that’s slick! How well does the voice recognition work though? That could end up being extremely irritating…
Good Question topper! Let my LACK of mentioning it earlier be a testament to how well the voice recognition works. It’s great! I’ve never seen software that works so well. This is not your typical customer service voice recognition where you end up screaming into the phone.
Well I think this sounds highly useful and could probably be put to good cause. But I think a better alternative would be to record what your saying with your phone. You can understand your own voice better than a computer, and if it’s important, you don’t want to get something wrong. Especially if you speak with a southern accent or slang, I would say record it. Now I haven’t tried this yet, but I just wanted to point out that the phone can record what your saying if that would be simpler.
Hydra440, Jott sends/saves a copy of the audio you recorded just in case their is a bad transcribing. The people you send messages to can also listen to these
this works great i love it so much. but i was just wondering do they charge you any money for this like 411 or does it just use your min and no additional charges?
I love Jott. But the technology isn’t quite as impressive as it seems. See Jott CEO’s comments:

That makes me a little uncomfortable, but I still use it and appreciate it.
To Mike, That does sound good. I will try this out when I get a chance, it would be good for when I’m working and need to remember something when I get home. I’m a cook so I am constantly busy, we are allowed to use the phone, but only on our 15Min breaks. So this would save me some valuable time. Thanks for the awesome app Mike.
[...] remember the posts on Jott and Evernote right? Well I had a thought in mind that it should be possible to Jott to Evernote [...]
