Jott, Evernote, Windows Mobile, and You
You remember the posts on Jott and Evernote right? Well I had a thought in mind that it should be possible to Jott to Evernote (JTE) making life all that much easier. What would I JTE? For starters, any small bit of information I might need later for reference such as a note, address, phone number, email address and so on. The list is really endless.
Apparently I was not the only one to see the potential. Phil Libin on the Evernote blog was about to write about it but was beat to the punch by Brad Isaac at LifeHacker. As with many How-To’s involving betas sometimes the flow changes a bit and since this site is about the Shadow I’m rewriting the steps and adding in a dash of AllShadow. Disabling XT9 For Those That Don’t Like It
ukiya16 posted in the forums a cab he found that disables the XT9 input on the Shadow. Someone might want to do this if English is not their native language, they text or email in a different language, and prefer the ABC method of input. Instead of having to switch from XT9 to ABC every now and then this cab file makes the change permanent. The file is originally for a different device but works fine on the Shadow. You can read more about it and download the cab in this forum post.
NOTE: If you didn’t know already you can switch input methods between XT9/T9 English, ABC, 123, and Symbols pressing and holding the * (Star) key when in a text entry field like the address bar in Pocket Internet Explorer or in a text message.
New Forum Added: Off-Topic

dom2684 started an off-topic thread that has so far seen 160 responses with people talking about where they’re from, what they’re doing at work (don’t let the boss see AllShadow open or he/she may block it!), and so on. That got us thinking - why not add an Off-Topic forum? So we did! AllShadow is a robust community with a lot of interesting people that have various things to talk about.
How is it different than the General forum? The General forum is for General ideas and insights that you have about the Shadow that aren’t specific to Themes/Hacks & Mods/etc, whereas the Off-Topic forum is for everything else!
That said - we hope that you enjoy the Off-Topic forum and get to know even more about fellow AllShadow members =D.
Feadie: Download What You Want

We have our first great submission from the Tell Mike Page, keep them coming! Lloyd writes in to tell us about Feadie:
“Ever tried to download something and that dreaded message comes up “file not viewable on this device”? Well there’s a program called Feadie that allows you to download any type of format you wish to download. Just type in the format you wish to download that you normally weren’t able to download, and the program registers it in your pocket IE.”
Well put and great find thanks Lloyd!
You can download Feadie here

Many of you are aware that the T-mobile Shadow is equipped with access to POP, IMAP, and other personal email accounts. Some of you may not know that the Shadow has the capability to deliver Exchange push email to your device and is a great asset to keep you connected at work. Get Skyfire Right Now with a Special Code

We got a tip from Kareem informing us that the Skyfire beta can be downloaded from now until August 30 using the special promotion code “Michael8″ over at the Skyfire sign up page. Skyfire is the really awesome browser that works on the Shadow which brings desktop-like web page rendering to your phone.
I just tried the code out and it worked….which is really big news for those of you waiting to get a copy. After you sign up on the Skyfire website, you get an SMS which links to a page that will let you download the file. If you want to know more about Skyfire, check out the video that Mike posted a few months ago.
SpaceTime 3.0: A Unbeatable Scientific Calculator App
When it comes to a scientific calculator on the Smartphone nothing beats SpaceTime Mathematics. Simply put it can do everything from basic math to derivatives, integrals and limits. It even cranks out 2D function, parametric, polar, vector field, implicit contour and fractal graphs with ease. Additionally it supports 3D function, parametric, spherical and cylindrical plots even with Time thrown in to see the results as it passes by. With its own scripting language and advanced features such as saving workbooks and returning to the last workbook you worked on SpaceTime 3.0 is by far the best scientific calculator on the market. If you might have a use for such a powerful program, keep reading for more details… › Continue reading
How To Use Multiple GPS Programs

I like having many solutions. I use Live and Google Maps when I’m on a trip as each has its own qualities. Microsoft has a utility that you can use to manage the GPS port on your Shadow so you can use several different mapping programs such as Live, Google Maps, GPSVP, Navizon, and Mobium. I’ve uploaded it to the site so it doesn’t disappear, the app is called GPSVP (you might need to download to your computer first). As in the screenshots above, you will need to tell your mapping programs about the change. Keep reading for the details… › Continue reading
Our View on Software Piracy

We interrupt our regularly scheduled Shadow programming for a public service announcement. =D
Over the last few months, we’ve had some software piracy issues to deal with in our forums, meaning - people were posting about ways to get software for free that usually costs money.
AllShadow.com doesn’t support or condone piracy for the following reasons:
1. There’s already a plethora of free applications out there, many of which we post about
2. The “premium” software that does cost money costs about $10-20 - that’s like the cost of two lunches
3. Piracy can lead to legal action against AllShadow.com (it’s true, and we’ve already been threatened)
4. Pirating software discourages innovation by forcing developers to go out of business
5. One of the ways that you can support this site is to use our fantastic software store
The moderators have been given the power to ban anyone who participates in software pirating.
Many thanks to everyone for their understanding about this; it’s a really important issue. And back to our regularly scheduled programming!
One more thing: We do not consider modifying/posting ROMs to be software piracy. And by ROM, we’re referring to the batch of files which make up an operating system (like the Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM, for example.)
Vista SideShow on the Shadow, Another Way to Control Your PC
While Vista SideShow is mostly ignored and underdeveloped it can still be useful and slightly entertaining. We’ve mentioned controlling your PC before with Salling Clicker and Ikanos’ Go Gadgets (it can even be done with Remote Desktop). We even gave a little notice about the developer preview. Well the developer preview is here and touts the ability to control your computer’s basic functions, inbox, Windows Media Player and more. For more details keep on reading… › Continue reading
Another Great Way to Navigate AllShadow.com

So far we have around 250 posts here on the main site and almost 3,000 threads in the forum that contains 19,000 of your posts. That’s an insane amount of content, and the Shadow II hasn’t even come out yet! =D

Anyhow, there are a few ways to find information on AllShadow.com. We have two search functions - one, which is located in the upper right corner of the site and forums, uses Google Custom Search to query the main site, forum, and store, all in one shot.

Second, once you get into a forum or a thread, you can use the search field next to the “New Topic” or “Post Reply” button to search more specifically within that thread or forum.
Now we have a new way to navigate through the plethora of posts and content on this site. jsmccabe78 has put together an incredibly comprehensive index that’s not only categorized, but sorted alphabetically within each category. Nice. A huge thanks to jsmccabe78 for taking the time to do this, and hopefully he’ll add to the index further as the site continues to grow.
Blackjack Anyone?
If you watched the movie ‘21′ and always wanted to try your hand at counting cards and winning at Blackjack then you will want to take a look at Aces Blackjack. In addition to being able to reference a strategy card (Good!), you can also play up to ten decks at a time. This really sets Aces Blackjack apart from other Blackjack games for Windows Mobile as most just generate a random number for a card. Keep reading for the full monty… › Continue reading
City Transit on Google Maps Mobile
Google added Public Transit Directions for most major cities to Google Maps Mobile. So if you take the Bus/Train/Blimp a lot (or are traveling to a city that eats subway cars for dinner) then you might consider upgrading your Google Maps. If you don’t have Google Maps yet then what are you waiting for? In addition to the ever familiar map it also supports an external Bluetooth GPS (which we have in the store…ahem). Google Maps also has a My Location feature which is handy if you only kind of need to know where you are. Sometimes it is accurate to within 1000 meters and at othertimes 5000 meters. You will need to App Unlock your Shadow to get the My Location feature working, which can be easily accomplished by installing the AllShadow.com Performance Enhancements.
Transit Directions are pretty neat. You simply add your start point, end point and choose a Depart By or Arrive By time and let Google do the rest!
To get Google Maps Mobile point any browser to google.com/gmm. Enjoy!
5 Steps to Better Battery Life
While there are extended batteries available to give you two to three times as much power most of the time you can extend your battery life significantly with simple conservation. Here are some simple settings you can use to make sure you have battery life at the end of the day.
- Turn off WiFi when you are not using it. Scanning for and staying connected to a Wireless Access Point takes a lot of juice.
- Turn off Bluetooth when not in use.
- Avoid using Vibrate. Vibrate is a physical motion that requires a lot of energy.
- If you send and receive a lot of text messages, turn off the ring tone for text messages.
- Under Start > Settings > Power Management change your settings for backlight on battery and display off to the same amount of time. 20 seconds should be a reasonable amount of idle time.
Extra Tip: If you’re not hard of hearing, turn the ring volume down on your phone. This is can be set under Start > Settings > Profiles > Highlight Normal, press Menu > Edit > change the Ring Volume to something lower (3 is plenty loud for me) and press done.
One more: Check out our other post, Better Battery Life in 5 Minutes.
Fall is Almost Here, Watch for Change
Here at AllShadow.com we are always working on ways to bring you a better resource and enhance the AllShadow Community. We have some projects underway that will do just that. Part of this effort requires some more time on our part so the Ask Mike page has been changed to Tell Mike. The community has grown large enough and the information to be found in our posts and in the forums is in-depth and expansive enough to answer most questions. What the page is for now is to tell the rest of the community about something interesting you found related to the T-Mobile Shadow or Windows Mobile Standard/Smartphone.
When submitting, be sure to include some descriptive information about what you found (including the name of the app if it is an app), a link to the original page about it (not a 3rd party site), and a direct download link. Note: The page still sends an email so don’t expect anything to show up on the main page.
As with any questions be sure to use the Search feature on the main website and to check the forums first, as most questions have an answer in there. If you are unable to find an answer to your question after searching, post a question in the forums, there are many knowledgeable people that cruise through the forums and you are more likely to get an answer quicker. Thank you!
