View or Read PDF files on Windows Mobile

Viewing PDFs on the Shadow smarpthone is simple with Adobe Reader LE already included. To get started go to Start > Applications > Adobe Reader LE or just open a PDF from File Explorer.

Here are some handy shortcuts. While viewing a PDF press the number on your keypad to achieve the corresponding result:

  1. Zoom In
  2. Fit Screen (Entire Page on Screen)
  3. Zoom Out
  4. Previous Page
  5. (unused)
  6. Next Page
  7. Find
  8. Rotate Counter-Clockwise
  9. Rotate Clockwise

Viewing preferences change depending on the file. For example; I like to view the Survival, Evasion, And Recovery Field Manual in landscape and zoomed in just enough to view the full width of the page. I found the text to be readable and if there was more detailed text I can zoom in and out quickly. Very handy in case I get lost on my way to the store…

I have started a thread in the forums as a place for AllShadow Community members to add free public domain eBooks they have. If you want to add to the collection please upload in Zip format. Please no Pirated Works.

Get AIM on Your Phone, Free

If you’ve been around the Windows Mobile world for a while, you know that AOL used to put out a client for AIM that was decent but not great, and they neglected to update it.

A few years later, it looks like AOL is getting really serious about AIM on mobile devices. Currently AIM for Windows Mobile (the new version) is in beta, but I’ve found it to be quite stable, and impressive. You can get the download link texted to your phone from AOL, or, if you’re like me and don’t like giving out your phone number to third parties, download the CAB from here.

I think that AOL’s prerogative for the new AIM for Mobile was to make the experience much like the newest version of AIM on the desktop (version 6 and above), and they’ve succeeded. Above we can see a shot of my buddy list. Like AIM desktop, it shows you the current status of each buddy next to their screen name. Plus, when you’re in your buddy list, you can get a view of current IM conversations off to the left. When a new message arrives, you get an indicator over the persons button icon. This all makes it easy to carry on multiple conversations at once. Neat.

Then, during an IM conversation, you can quickly shoot back to your buddy list with the left soft key, or enter the Menu where you can change settings. The settings menu looks very similar to what you’ll find on the desktop and gives you quite a bit of control over the behavior of AIM for mobile - including sound, skin, block, and sign on options.

I give AIM for Windows Mobile 5/5 Shadows - it’s free (for now), and does a fantastic job at bringing AIM to your Shadow.

Quick Tip: Delete Your CAB Files

We talk a lot about CAB files here, and there are dozens of them floating on the forums. Basically, a CAB file is for your Shadow like an EXE installation file is for your computer. When you are done with the CAB file, you can delete it without deleting the program. This is a good practice because CAB files often take up a lot of space - and if the CAB is on your device and not the storage card, they can add up fast and take away storage memory.

A good practice is to keep a folder on your computer with all of the CAB files that you’ve ran on your Shadow. That way, if you ever need to hard reset, you can get going again with all of the CABs you’ve installed.

MANY thanks to DJ Revler for his hard work on this project. For a good source of ROMS and more detailed information and the FAQ about SNES on the T-Mobile Shadow check out Revler’s thread on SNES.

To get started you will need the SNES files pack. If you have questions or problems read the SNES thread in the forums, most questions are already answered there.

Enjoy!

Awesome Deal on 8GB microSDHC cards

I found this while perusing Amazon. An 8GB card for less than $40. I can’t give an exact price because every time I refresh the page the price changes. So I ordered one, after my order was complete I went back to check the price and it went up a dollar! Maybe it changes with the number available? If anyone else orders one, let us know what your results are in the comments.
