Who Else Wants A Better Note Program?

There’s a problem with most Note programs, they just aren’t accessible enough and they usually cost money. On touch screen Windows Mobile phones the notes are synced with Outlook and the interface is messy at best. Then again there are thousands of desktop-only note applications. Even further, there are plenty web based note systems in place. The worst part of the mess is that not a single one can do Text, Audio, Photo (and Ink) while being accessible from your phone, computer, or any web browser AND allow you to share notes at the click of a button…until Evernote was born. What makes this deal even sweeter is the price…Free!

It isn’t a recently born product so most of the bugs are worked out and many user requested features have been worked into the system. Easily accessible and easy to use is a major redeeming quality of any note taking application and Evernote doesn’t fail in this aspect. Evernote understands that most of the time we just want to capture information quickly and deal with it later. Thus the simple interface is born! From the main screen you can quickly Create, Upload or Search your notes for maximum effectiveness. The Left Soft Key adds the additional functionality of Snapshots and Voice recording.

Simple text notes are just that, simple. Like my Haiku.

Don’t worry about forgetting to upload! You can change the settings to automatically upload notes as they are created.

With Automatic settings enabled you can tell from the main screen that your notes have been uploaded. Where did they go?

There they are! They’ve been sown into the cloud. Don’t worry about privacy, Only you can see these unless you want to share them.

What I really like about Evernote is the access-from-anywhere setup. Once you sit down (or stand) at your computer you can quickly access your notes through a browser and edit, delete or share them with others. The sharing is accomplished through an email that appears to come from your email address so you don’t have to worry about too many spam filters blocking communications with friends and coworkers. If one notebook gets too cluttered or isn’t enough you can always create more and designate one as the recipient notebook for your Shadow (or other Windows Mobile device).

Snapshots and audio are displayed in the grid along with other notes and are just as easy to manage. That’s a picture of me seeing lower gas prices. 20% off for a month at the store for anyone who can figure out what kind of car that is (must post in the comments!)

Evernote burns the competition by throwing in an easy to use desktop client for Windows and Mac. After installation it automatically synchronizes with your cloud notes so you never miss out. The desktop client is the most feature rich of all the interfaces. If you have a Tablet PC or Touch Screen Windows Mobile device you can even ink notes with Evernote.

There is one minor (very minor) downside to Evernote, monthly usage. Free users get 40MB of transfer bandwidth to use per month, however this can be upgraded for a low monthly fee for the Seriously-Noteifed. To aid you in seeing what it can do I have created a 7th grade Science Class worthy table below. J

Overall I give it four out of five Shadows. It could get more if it made editing notes on the device a little easier. But hey it’s free! If you want to check it out go to Evernote.com

Thanks auddie, forgot about the link!

Kalvindawg, it’s my new favorite. I collect notes during the day on random things when I’m out and about and review them when I get back. I find that sometimes things are no longer relevant so I just delete them. Othertimes I am seriously reminded “OH YEAH! almost forgot!”

Charles, no not a mini cooper, keep trying

The car is a Scion. Thanks Mike. I am stoked to load that up but I have to wait till I get home. For some reason my computer at work will not let me go to the create account screen. It’s very weird. But it looks like a great program. I teach guitar and I am always making notes for myself and my students! Dude this site rocks, and the shadow rocks! I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new battery so I can really take advantage of all the cool things one can do with this phone!

Honda Civic SI or Honda Fit?

Good find, i’ve been needing a good, FREE note program ever since my trial ran out 2 months ago!

Well I’ve been using it for a full day now. Pretty cool! I saw an ad in the paper today that I wanted to remember so I tore it out and stuck it in my pocket. I usually end up with these kind of things lost around the house. Then I remembered this note program. So I took the clipping out set it on the table and used the note program to take a “snapshot” of the ad. Then it automatically sent it to my album on evernote! I cooly left the clipping on the table in the breakroom and walked away knowing I had it online now…..How cool! And I don’t have to keep track of that piece of paper…oh, and my fiance won’t kill me later for bringing it home in the first place.

Kalvindawg, it is an automobile but you have to guess make and model

HoldFastHope, not a Honda Civic SI or Fit, one guess at a time please.

Kalvindawg, I love not having to drag extra bits of paper with me!
