A Traveler’s Friend

There are several different solutions to having weather on the home screen, some for the NEO home screen and many for the standard Windows Mobile home screen. WorldMate Live takes it a step further by throwing in one click access to your itinerary, travel tools, weather and more, all for free. Even though the home screen plug-in doesn’t work for the NEO you can still use it on the Shadow. In addition to being easy to use it works for you on an easier level than most business/travel apps I have seen. For example, when you are done planning a trip (or having a travel agent do it for you) just email a copy of your itinerary to WorldMate Live and the system automatically begins tracking your flights, providing directions, maps, and weather. Keep reading for more details…

If you are a frequent traveler it can handle multiple itineraries with a variety of information including flights, rental cars, appointments, hotel accommodations and more.

As a ‘why-the-hell-not’ bonus they even throw in some tools and conversion calculators to make traveling abroad easier.

A handy world clock is provided so you know when you can when the a certain market opens up overseas.

A currency converter for those of us that might be considered about such trivialities J

The Measurements Converter is actually more powerful than it sounds, converting everything from areas and distances to weights and temperatures.

The clothing converter can help you quickly find your size when shopping for attire overseas.

The Day/Night map gives you a better idea when the sun comes up. Looks like I better get to bed before I get fried!

Of course what most people seem to be concerned with, the Weather! Now you can have a better idea of what to pack.

With Flight Status and Schedules only a click or two away, WorldMate Live makes it harder for you to miss your ride. These are available in the Gold version. You begin a trial 7 days right from the phone but otherwise it’ll will cost you $100/year. A worthwhile investment for the frequent traveler. Now you don’t have to worry about your assistant making a mistake while plotting your calendar.

For the Outlook oriented there is even a plug-in for that saves you a few clicks before hitting the road.

One feature that I really like is that WorldMate Live is plugged into the Cloud, meaning you can login through the web interface, create or edit new itineraries and share them with others. You could even give you login information to an assistant or co-worker so they can do it for you. The best part of WorldMate Live is the Free status. It’s free so it doesn’t hurt to sign-up for it and install it. It’ll be there when you need it.

To get started with WorldMate Live simply point your Mobile Browser to WMLive.com or a desktop browser to WorldMateLive.com. Enjoy!

I give it four and a half Shadows! It would get five if it didn’t take so much memory when running, but on the Shadow it isn’t much of a concern.

Another reason to ditch the NEO homescreen! Really good program here. And to make it better… I have been working on a brown color scheme that matches all the brown in the phone (I used the brown colors used right in the NEO scheme) to use with the WM Homescreens. I did this because I like the brown but not NEO and wanted my WM Home to match the rest of the phones color. I will post it when I get home!
