HTC Home, Diamond Style

One of our most popular featured downloads was found in the Tired of Neo? Download HTC Home post made last month.

Well, we now have an updated version of HTC Home that grabs some visual elements from the newly released HTC Touch Diamond.  It features a analogue-style clock, an application launcher strip, plus larger icons for Home, Weather and Favorite People.  Click here to download.  And, if you want to customize this plugin, there’s a thread in the forums that describes how to add RAM, Battery, and cellular service indicators to the screen, among others.

Update: Thanks to ShadowMike for pointing this out.  In order for this Diamond visual update to work, you must first download the original HTC Home plugin found in this post.

Convert Your DVDs for Free

There are many methods for converting DVDs and just as many premium applications. This video walks you through my preferred free method for converting DVDs so I can watch them on my Shadow or any Windows Mobile device. When transferring the converted files, using the settings in the video, Windows tells me that it won’t work, don’t believe that, the videos will play on Windows Media Player Mobile.

The two applications I used in the video are:

Super - you can get it from www.erightsoft.com You will have to look hard for the download link as it isn’t well defined. Don’t download this from another site, this is the original site and updates are released frequently.

DVD Decrypter -This is an older freeware, the original site has gone missing so I’m hosting a copy here. It works fast and well. When you exit DVD Decrypter you might get an error message, just ignore it and press Ok enough times to get rid of it.

If you don’t mind the extra work and files then this is the way to go.

Shadow II on eBay, sold at Buy It Now for $499

Not bad of an unsubsidized price. But seriously? We have a clearer image now. The seller’s located in Seattle, Washington, which leads me to wonder by what shady methods did they get a hold of this thing? Congrats to the buyer. I kind of like the Red and wonder what other variants will be available. If you are the buyer, give us a buzz.

From the item description it says Push To Talk, this is news to me and T-Mobile doesn’t offer that service so perhaps this is an early prototype with a non locked down version of Windows Mobile. The image also shows the phone without a network/SIM card. Perhaps the seller knows about the tracking ability of carriers for individual ’special’ devices. Stay tuned…

Thanks to Muamer at benzinsider.com for the tip!

Shadow II: Good News and Bad News

Good News:

The image above is the Shadow II with a possible form diluting band around its belly. Either that or the image suggests that we might get more color choices for our Shadows in the form of colored bands. One can only hope it is removable.

Also, the Shadow II will have fully functional, highly tested, money saving HotSpot@Home hardware and software. I can’t wait to get my hands on this one and start saving minutes. Just imagine…

Bad News:

Brace yourselves…no 3G.

Other confirmations have yet to surface so stay tuned.

Organize That Drawer!

This isn’t Shadow specific but has more to do with our cluttered drawers full of phones, devices, accessories, mp3 players, cables and what nots. I got tired of rummaging around to find one simple thing and every drawer organizer on the market either didn’t fit the drawer right or was pointless and wasted a lot space.

So I decided to make my own. It was surprisingly easier to do than expected and now I have an awesome drawer for my precious goods. Check out the video below for the complete process. Apologies for the shaky parts of the video :)

The Public Library is Now Open for Private Entertainment

Adam Z Lein at pocketnow.com has an informative article about how public libraries offer all kinds of DOWNLOADABLE digital content including movies, music, audio books, and eBooks. I didn’t know about this until I saw the article so I decided to do some checking on my own. Your library might do the same. For the most part you will need your Library card number and PIN. I checked mine, and it turns out that the Greater Phoenix Library system does offer downloads. I conducted a quick grab and check out so I could tell you how well these work. › Continue reading
