If you want an alternative to the Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE), have tried out Opera Mini and can’t wait for SkyFire then take a look at JB5. This browser is definitely faster than PIE, doesn’t need Java like Opera Mini and is available now unlike SkyFire. Among some of the features are Progressive rendering as content downloads (very fast), Bookmarks management (Import/Export), Save pages to your phone, Find/Search in page, a Download Manager, Save Images, display without Images, set as default browser, different display options, full screen, and more. Keep reading for more information about JB5
Some features I find interesting are:
- Personalize Wizard – PIN protected logins for all the pages you visit that require usernames and passwords
- Auto-Scroll – Many different speeds for scrolling up and down on a page, very handy
- TABS! – yes different windows/tabs so you can do some multitasking
Below are some screenshots of various features:
There is a lot you can do with your bookmarks to make them more organized.
When you log into a page JB5 will ask if you want to save this information for future logins. The login information is protected by a PIN you designate.
The saved login information is accessible just like a bookmark.
Tabs/Windows; you can have several web pages open at once.
You can download JB5 from jataayu.net. It’s free and many more improvements are coming soon. They are very open to suggestions and comments so if you have a brilliant idea go ahead and send it up to them.
Enjoy!

there is a better browser out there available for free it is called ibisdx ., i also have netfront 3.5 concept working on my shadow. iris is also available and is based of webkit (safari) but ibis dx is very promising
June 24th, 2008 at 4:48 am
got jb5 think its ok agree with sda that ibis dx is better pics come up clean and i think its the fastest so far. iris is slow and how did you get netfront working sda?
June 24th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Good question. How did you get Netfront working? I tried downloading it but it won’t load. My understanding is this browser is for touchscreen only.
Regarding IBisdx, I also like it especially due to the multiple zoom levels. if you hit 1 or 4 it will zoom from 34% to 300%. Very cool but it does corrupt at times. JB5 seems good as well and Iris works but is a little slow.
June 24th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
sda, if you can post how you got netfront to work maybe we can get an article about it. Especially if its an easy fix.
June 24th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
well there is no fix to netfront other than this. when clicking on the icon it won’t immediately bring up the browser but you will see operation and menu on the start menu. click on menu go to view click on full
screen. now the tabs will not work since this browser is touch based but the bookmarks work. it imports the pie bookmarks and for the most part they all work. the mouse works and if you double click fast it renders a complete view of the page to scroll wher you want to go. it is a little buggy but works for the most part
June 24th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
sda, thanks for letting us know. it worked for me as well. I am using netfront now to add these
comments. I wonder if we can also try some of the opera leaked builds for 9.5? they are also for touch screen ppc but maybe they will work.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
dave ,on the opera 9.5 the leaked version will not work on the shadow i have tried several different times .
June 24th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
thanks. I just learned that myself.. oh well. maybe they will have Opera 9.5 out soon for beta. do you know any other browsers like netfront that are for ppc that we can also try?
June 24th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
dave, not at the moment but soon wake3 will be releasing their wm version of webkit and fennec (mobile firefox) will be out in beta hopefully by years end they will have an alpha version in sept.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
diggin the new browser. nothing amazing but it works well and i do love the tabs.. still waiting in anticipation for skyfire.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
Hi sda, i used JB5 its really a good browser, even i tried opera mini but i am not finding it as efficient as JB5,art technique is really good in this case, but i feel so its is a full browser and not the Mini like Opera, do u see any other browser which is a better browser then JB5 and that too without Java
June 24th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
chadha
i think jb5 is ok but as i wrote in an earlier response i think ibis dx is faster a renders a better quality of the web pages.
June 25th, 2008 at 12:12 am

This one’s good, like the idea of tab. And also the GUI is better looking. But would like to know how does it look when it hangs?
June 25th, 2008 at 4:13 pm

June 25th, 2008 at 9:42 pm

June 25th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
ok,
My list is:
1. opera mini 4.1
2. ibisbrowserDX
3. JB5 browser
4. Pie
June 26th, 2008 at 2:58 am
1 skyfire
2 ibisdx
3 opera 8.65
4 netfront concept 3.5
5 iris
6 jb5
7 opera mini 4.1
8 pie
9 teashark
10 minimo
even though i have them ranked this way i still use pie the most especially because of the tcpmp and flash video bundle. for downloading ibisdx and netfront seem to be quicker than pie
June 26th, 2008 at 3:11 am
i forgot microsoft deepfish
that would go ahead of minimo. deepfish for viewing pages is very similar to skyfire minus the flash and all the other options. when its working effectively its got potential. however microsoft may have killed this project instead in favor of upgrading pie for wm7 (speculated). if any of you haven’t tried it their is cabs for it on the xda site. and they have a good registration code for it. if your looking for ibisdx or iris google search their names and you will find their sites.
June 26th, 2008 at 7:49 am
Thanks sda!!
Deepfish is kind of cool to be honest. I like it alot. It seems to render pages fast.
June 26th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
ya i agree and the potential is there if microsoft follows through with it. for anyone needing advice or a cab i have about two hundred can files about 90 pct work with the shadow. so give me an email
at sda2020@yahoo.com
i have been using or customizing wm phones since 02 and have knowledge of symbian platforms

i have a problem downloading ibis dx, when i try and install it from my phone it says the MIDlet stop responding, i would try again and it does the same thing, please help me, because i want to try ibis dx, thanks
June 27th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Hey Derrick. Try this instead. You want to download the windows mobile standard edition, not the java version. They just updated it in late June. It works good with occasional bugs but it is one of the better browsers.
Here’s the link.
http://ibis.ne.jp/en/browser/downloadDXWM.jsp
**make sure you pick the standard version. good luck.
June 27th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
thanks dave, much appreciated….i wonder if the java would show flash and etc, lol….oh an the jb5 is great too, better than the original explorer on the phone
June 27th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
the java version is alot slower and out of date. This wm standard version is the best they offer. Unfortunately, none of them support flash except for opera mobile which is coming out July 15th for beta release. that may be the best mobile browser yet, even better than Skyfire from what I hear.
June 28th, 2008 at 10:40 am
i cant wait
June 29th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
why does the ibis dx browser show in japanese language? i changed the language to english and it still shows as japanese translation, please help!
June 29th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
this sometimes happens but I had more success leaving the language on default rather than english.
June 30th, 2008 at 9:22 am
oh thanks, this is a great browser, when is the next browser? and will it be better than ibis dx with flash and java?
June 30th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Well, Opera Mobile 9.5 is coming in mid July but no one is sure if it will support Windows Mobile Smartphones (nontouchscreen). If is does, it should be the best browser out there. Unfortunately, it seems like the industry is moving away from us smartphone users… I guess that means we will need to upgrade at some point to take advantage of the new browsers that hit the market although I really like the Shadow.
June 30th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
i just upgraded to the shadow in april
July 1st, 2008 at 1:23 am
So this maybe sound stupid but is my first time tryin to download a new browser and im not havin much luck. i hit download and all i get is a folder w/ a bunch of files it wants me to unzip. however nothing is working, all it does is take me to windows live…any suggestions?
July 1st, 2008 at 7:38 am
dave, my email won’t let me send out for some dumb ass reason or else you would have gotten this sooner. as i have read into about opera 9.5 iam pretty sure its going to be for non touch screen devices . in the opera blog it states that it is going to be released for multiple devices. that leads me to believe that non touch screen is included because touch based windows 6 devices are pretty much identical when it comes to using third party software so i don’t think its something to worry about. and opera prides itself at bringing their products to multiple platforms and devices. so we will see on the 15th. also as i earlier told you the that it might not have flash. well it says it will have flash lite 3.0 support and flash lite 3 is not out yet for wm devices . at least not a fully functional one since i have flash lite 3 but it does not work
July 1st, 2008 at 7:56 am
Thanks sda. I hope they do release this for the smartphone. By the way, if you use yahoo mail, I have not been able to send email for a couple weeks now through the Shadow. Also, when I try log in through my PC is is very slow and often directs me to the yahoo classic to view mail. They are definitley having problems with sending mail but I still receive email fine. I actually opened a hotmail account since I was tired of yahoo not fixing this.
July 1st, 2008 at 8:25 am
Hey Mitch, you should just open the Browser cab file on your phone either on the storage card or device. you do not need to open the file on your computer. Just move the cab file to your phone through active sync or email the cab to yourself. You can also open up a support question in the forums which will be seen by everyone.
July 1st, 2008 at 9:54 am
which is more better right now, opera mini 4.1 or ibisdx? i just added the opera mini 4.1 browser to my phone, i also signed up for the skyfire (beta 2) browser when it comes available? and what that new browser thats coming soon called again?
July 1st, 2008 at 9:55 am
oh and i deleted the jb5 browser from my phone because it was too slow in loading pics, but it did show great once loaded
July 1st, 2008 at 10:07 am
wait, i downloaded opera mini 4.1 and it is saying it will charge airtime minutes to browse online , i thought it was free!!
July 1st, 2008 at 11:21 am
Derrick, lots of questions my man!! You should go to the forums to look up some information. The answers to your questions are above in the chain. Opera mini is better because of full page rendering to start and is a faster but ibisdx looks better. Also, opera is free since it is using the data network, just say yes and you are all set.
July 1st, 2008 at 12:57 pm
oh
July 13th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
can you play videos, cause pie can, and if you cant then pie kicks this browsers a$$!
July 13th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
which one do i download the ppc or the sp please tell thx!
July 14th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
John,
download the sp version. regarding videos, you can download videos through opera mini but many of the mobile browsers don’t have the capability. even so they render pages much better in most cases than Pie so they are still better for regular daily use.
