Tired of Neo? Download HTC Home

Posted by Brandon Miniman on May 29th, 2008

If you get tired of the Neo Home screen, you’re in luck - there are a plethora of other Home screens you can load onto your Shadow, and heck, we even have a Themes Forum that puts them all under one place.

I recently found a Home screen that I thought to be particularly good-looking: the HTC tabbed Home screen.  If you’ve seen HTC devices like the TyTN II or Touch, you know that they come with HTC Home out of the box.  Good thing we have a version that works on the Shadow - download the CAB here.

To get it going, transfer the CAB to your device and run it.  Then, go into Settings, Home Screen, and choose “HTC” … be sure to set Color scheme and Background image to “default.” Also, in order to get weather updates, you’ll need to be on a data plan or on a WiFi network.

Thanks to ShadowMike for posting this in the forums.

Strange…that linked work yesterday. Oh well, it’s working now. Thank you Chris.

dee - go into Settings>Home Screen> and make sure Color Scheme and Background Image is set to “default.” That will use the black colors.

Mane i had this background like 3 months ago!!! its pretty cool but i dont like the way it starts too load the weather slowly after a while!!! also the people feature got me into a little gurl trouble!!! lol

    good day homies!!!

With this HTC Theme you can still put a picture in the background although there are fields that will overlap your pic. Ihave the mac Leopard bacground mixed with this HTC theme layout. Looks nice and is a little different than WM themes.

  • Kabump said:

As for the calling screen background, I just installed Freddy Reyes’s black neo theme, it changed the calling screen and the start menu to black, then just use the HTC home screen. Works perfectly for me.

I like the theme, but it seems like the band at the bottom (w/ the HTC logo) is wasted screen real estate. Is there something that goes there?

  • gasanpride said:

    David,
What did you do? I am also getting the same message Instalation of Gregory HTCHome.cab was unsuccessful”
i am still in WM 6.0 and not 6.1 yet

Get tied of Neo?!? I Don’t understand

  • TexasPriest said:

Very cool theme, but I agree with Kevin, too much wasted space. Until there is a way to fill it up, it’s back to Neo for me.

  • nicholask1984 said:

Love it, but I can not get it to switch off Celsius. Thoughts?

  • Shadowsoprano said:

There is a way to fill it up. If you go the forum that the cab is found in, someone edited an xml file i believe to include most recent apps used, schedule, profile, and media player

  • d33zilla said:

OMG ! looks soooooooooooooo GOOD! gonna keep this on 4 a while !! but i do miss the easy access to the media payer, pics, and taks manager right on the home screen ! over all diggin it!

  • larry j said:

too much space not enough functionality but ok for the occasional different look.

  • Marc Haight said:

OK, I tired the link to get the add on for the media player etc to appear on the home screen…no luck. Anyone have another way. I really want more on my homescreen than this one has to offer.

Really great home screen. I LOVE IT ! Only thing I would like to change is to have the weather update more often. It seems to only update about once every 2 hours. I”m in Houston and the weather here changes quickly and this screen doesn’t keep up. Anyone got any ideas ?

  • Marc Haight said:

Also, I checked out the HTC website. They got some other cool home screens. Anyone want to try and get them for our Shadow too? I’m not experienced enough to know how.

  • semperaye said:

To bad the weather reports are only for certain major citys. I wish the “favorite persons” was changed to Live Messenger Status. But overall a nice theme :)
