Awhile ago we posted about updating the Shadow to the newer software version released from T-Mobile. Apparently there are a lot of Shadow’s still being sold with the older software. The new software fixes a lot of problems and it is actually in everyone’s best interests to update before you get your phone too personalized. If you haven’t yet then you need to read Taking the Plunge: How To Update Your Shadow.
Also, if you own a T-Mobile Wing a new software update was just released that improves performance and memory management. You can download this update on T-Mobile’s Upgrade page.
As a further public service announcement, there has been an update for the Dash for awhile that fixes some problems as well. Available from the same page.

Kabump, if you have no problems with your Shadow with your hacks then don’t do it. However you can use CEregeditor to back up your hacks.
Johnsmith, gotta be careful with that. We can’t really do that kind of linking on the front page. However….the Hacks and Modifications forums are where someone might want to look for a different rom *hint* there’s a link there.
Lishous, if you haven’t added any programs to your Shadow and have synced it to your PC then go ahead and install the update. It is worth it for more most people.

how do you send picture message on 6.1?

LaRon,
You have to set up the access points for both mms and your internet/email connection. The easiest way to do this is found on Tmo’s website, just search for device configuration and you should find the page. From there you should have a step by step on how to enter the connections. I have done this in the past on smartphones from other countries.
Cheers,
Tom

one thing I noticed when I did this upgrade. My Xt9 changed to t9. Not much of a difference except in t9 settings you can see a list of words you have created which is great. You can add and delete words there as well. One more thing I noticed. If you see that a certain word is not coming up in t9 or you made a mistake and now ib comes up instead of in(which is really annoying). I discovered if you type in again and fix the ib a couple times in a row it will reset to the word in again. this works great with getting don’t instead of font for example.

lishous, if you are having trouble with your contacts you can always use the built in T-Mobile Address book to sync them to your my.t-mobile.com account
semperaye, you need to run the update from your computer with the phone synced.

I updated my shadow on Sunday night…what a production that was. It actually fixed a few things that my Shadow had recently started doing that was driving me nuts. The end call button would just stop working for me. Now it works all the time. The only thing I cannot get back to normal is the e-mail accounts. My phone refuses to let me set up my e-mail accounts because it says I have the accounts already set up? I can’t figure this out. Any thoughts on this Mike? Also, that backup utility called Sprite Backup is a great utility…but it didn’t help me with re-esablishing my e-mail accounts.
