How much better? Well that’s for you to decide. They have implemented some bug fixes and incorporated some features. Read more for pictures and descriptions of these treats.

Collections

First up is the Collections feature. Think of it as an enhanced RSS reader. It basically involves your location into the process. See that entry for Upcoming Events and HomeThinking: Recent Home Sales? Those are searched for by your entered location and results displayed. It isn’t exactly Google Real Estate but it’s sort of neat. Interestingly enough, Flickr is included. Go figure Yahoo fans J

Finding RSS feeds isn’t as nice as it should be but when entering AllShadow.com’s feed be sure to use the http:// otherwise it might have a conniption. In case you were wondering it is http://feeds.feedburner.com/allshadow if you want to add the feed to your browser just click the RSS icon up right.

Some more views of the Collections service.

In case you were wondering what the SMS to a Friend screen looked like. Fairly simple and to the point.

Web

Boring actually, not even worth taking a screen shot of. It takes you straight to Pocket Internet Explorer and on the version of .com

Weather

Basic, but do we really need seismographs? Okay maybe radar on a device for free would be awesome but we don’t get that yet. The More Weather Info takes you Pocket Internet Explorer again. What does Microsoft spend their money on anyways?

Overall, I like the addition of Weather and Collections. The ongoing battle of RSS readers has been slow in changes but I’m still yearning for a client side app that operates almost exactly like Google Reader’s interoperability between and desktop browsers plus the ability to star items for viewing on a larger screen. Weather is nice to know if you are anywhere but the Phoenix Area (Sunny all the time except Monsoon season anyone?).

I want to be clear about something though. I like a lot better than Yahoo’s monstrosity Yahoo Go 2.0/3.0 which takes way too long to start up and never gets my most current email (it’s just eye candy). Plus! has a smaller footprint on my device. Stomp that!

I just picked it up…I’m trying it out now just to see how it goes…

I don’t use live search much*…maybe this will change my mind.

* = Easiest way to change that is if they had the triangulation that Google Maps has…

I just posted on the new collections feature of Live Search for Mobile, using screenshots from my Shadow, of course. The collections feature doesn’t really sink in as being cool until you realize that you can create a collection on your pc, capture an rss link, and add that to your phone. Now not only do you have the collection available on your Shadow, but you can update the collection on your pc and it will get updated on the phone.

@ShadowFan2008 - you’ll need a GPS device (bluetooth or similar) for that to work.
I love my Freedom keyring GPS device - pairs great with the Shadow

I have the same problem Maverick. What I found out is that the new one is installed, but you have to go to the start screen to use the new one. The home screen takes you to the old one. The only solution I have found is to make a shortcut for the new one.

The latest version (1/15/09) says they support Locate Me even without phones with GPS… does not seem to work on the shadow… yet… anyone know how to get it working? I am using the Erofich ROM (WM6.1)
