Word has been going around the forums since the beginning of an extended battery for the Shadow. Well the legend is true and I’m proud to present BoxWave’s ElectraSpan Extended Battery for the T-Mobile Shadow. While the OEM battery that comes with the Shadow has 920-1000mah of power, BoxWave’s comes packing 2200mah of juice for you to enjoy. Read on to find out the full scoop…
You do give up some slimness for the extra power. An extended battery cover comes with the battery that adds some extra bulk at the bottom back. This isn’t all bad as it allows you to stand the Shadow up on your desk for a neat parlor trick.
To show you how much of a difference the battery makes I ran a simple test on the BoxWave battery and the OEM battery that came with the Shadow.
For the test:
- Streaming video over WiFi
- Fullscreen video
- Volume on high, played through speaker
- Email set to check every 15 minutes
OEM Battery Results: On a full charge the OEM battery lasted through 1 hour 57 minutes of this brutality.
BoxWave ElectraSpan Extended Battery Results: From a full charge, BoxWave’s battery lasted 4 hours and 21 minutes. That’s almost 2.25 times longer than the OEM battery. Granted, most people don’t use their Shadow’s under these extreme conditions but this just gives you an idea of how much more time you will have with your Shadow. 2.25 times more between charges.
Right now BoxWave has a web special for this battery. Instead of $85.95 you can get it for $59.95. So if you want that extra go juice go to BoxWave’s page.
If it wasn’t for the bulk it would get 5, but instead I give it 4.5 Shadows!

That really sucks. I have the Invisible Shield. I don’t have a protection on my battery cover if I get that.
April 19th, 2008 at 8:19 am
Hmm you could always trim it or get another one specifically for the cover. When using it with that rubberized case I can just leave the back plate off. Main reason I like the rubberized case is it protects my buttons from calling people…
The battery has its obvious uses. I was thinking about it. That test was about the length of a flight (LA to NY) With wifi off and headphones on it would more than last that long.

I am surprised on the shallow comments.
Checking back through the forums, I seem to recall a yearning for a longer battery life.
Obviously beauty is more important than life… hmmm.

technology calls for slim sleek fast and more powerfull items not bigger bulky items. it just takes a few steps back from technology evolution!
April 20th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Will it still fit in the belt case that came with the Shadow? I use my belt clip when I go out and it would be a shame if it couldn’t fit anymore…

Are you able to return the battery once you have used it?
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:57 am
ditto to the comments above. i mean, they market a product that will actually do all that we (in the 21st century) need it to do without having it look like one. The sleek, glossy, look of the shadow is one of the reasons we are so turned on by it, adding a battery that turns it into a mini computer just so that we are actually able to USE the phone defeats the purpose. This is a PROBLEM that doesnt warrant a solution that will alter the attributes that attracted us to the product in the first place. I can not be alone in strongly believing that there needs to be a recall on this phone. Tmobile needs to fix the problem and ship out new phones with the same features and style of the phone to all who purchased. I dont believe I am being too idealistic when I suggest this. If I charge the phone all night, turn off my alarm when it rings in the morning, check email, get to work and listen to mp3 for one hour (tops) and the phones crying to be charged. I didnt grab the charger yesterday so it died by lunch time (the time I need to take care of business on the phone). Whats the point of having a product that boast all of these features when it isnt even functional?!?! It’s just a darned good looking $150.00 paperweight. Tmobile has got to take responsibility and rectify their error (without charging us 60.00 -and a uglier product-)
*forgive me for the rant, I am just truly frustrated with this issue*
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:10 pm
yeah they tried to make a sleek phone and then made the battery last. The battery lasts fine for me, but I’m not a power user. Maybe like 20ish txts a day and 3hrs on the phone. But for those complaining about having a longer lasting battery and it being the same size, get real. If HTC could of made a battery that lasted longer with the same size, they would have done it. You wanted a longer lasting battery, here it is! You had to have known that it wasn’t going to be the same size. Lets stop the complaining about why this battery is so big. Its bigger because it holds more power, which is what we’ve been asking for.
April 23rd, 2008 at 8:45 pm
I have had 8 shadows since the 17th of December. the first three had different problems. one was stolen in route. and the last three have been problems getting into T-zones. which was figured out by one of the supervisors. I dont believe that the phone should be recalled. I finally have one that is working great. Ya the battery is a problem but nothing is perfect especially electronics. now everyone wanted a stronger battery and its here. now either jump on the band wagon or stop gripping. If you pass up the extra power because of bulk then that’s you’re choice. then you have no right to gripe about it because you made a choice. I have had my problems with this phone and reserve the right, due to past experiences, to say that this is one of the best phones on the market.
April 25th, 2008 at 7:04 am
I am not here to challenge anyone. And i agree that the (CONCEPT) of this phone is one of the best today HOWEVER, lets be real. It is unacceptable to have to return six different phones. Granted…i love it just the same, and have come to the conclusion that I am going to troubleshoot as you have…but that doesnt make it acceptable and doesnt change the fact that tmobile needs fix the NUMEROUS problems with this device and issue new (WORKING) phones. True, i shouldnt complain, i decided to stick with the product. but as a consumer… i have EVERY right
April 26th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Are we talking about batteries or problems here folks?
The battery is bigger because (technical rant as I happen to deal with batteries internaks at work) to get twice as much amperes they had to put twice as many cells in the battery, twice the cells means twice the size. No, they could not use smaller cells, it would defeat the purpose as 2 half size cells equals 1 full size cell power wise. Don’t like the size? Then don’t use the new battery, but don’t complain when yours dies “too fast”. as for it not working right, I went back to the Dash, but I still use the Shadow as a “Wifi PDA” cause I do like some of its features!

this phone looks like a big penis and now it looks like a huge cock now that it has a big battery so now you all got what you wanted….big package
