Here is a list of improvements we know the Shadow II will have, some speculation, some that would make sense, and some wants… Feel free to add in the comments and we’ll update. More than likely the hardware has already been developed. Cross your fingers and hope the Software Devs for the Shadow will read this and throw some last minute improvements in.
Confirmed Improvements:
- UMA
- Will work on T-Mobile’s new high speed network (when it goes live)
- Windows 6.1
- Neo Interface as well
Most Likely Unconfirmed Improvements:
- Will work with T-Mobile’s HotSpot@Home
- You will get to type Don’t instead of Font
- Faster Processor
- More Memory
Logical Improvements (things that would make sense)
- integrated GPS
- Higher MP camera
- Recessed Camera lens (so it doesn’t get scratched)
- Recessed Send/End buttons (get rid of accidental calling)
- Will already come with HTC Streaming Application, HTC Action Screen, etc.
- Themeable Neo Ease (will be easier to switch between different Neo themes)
- Scroll Wheel will have a custom sensitivity setting
Wants
- Options for Neo Homescreen (Add a user pane, switch App X with App Y without hacking registry)
- Complete customisation for Shortcut Key, Volume Keys, Camera Key, Home Key, Back Key (add any app, use ‘Browse’ to assign)
- Built in links to AllShadow.com!
New Network Confirmation
- Yes, they are already testing it
- It will roll out first in Major cities based upon population density per square mile.
New Network Speculation
- New Networks are very expensive to roll out, however T-Mobile has had a lot of time to set their equipment up. It will be a very large zero day roll out
Confirmed Current Features
- Will be a slideout like the current Shadow

Arghh… the “font” thing makes me so angry too!
I really hope most of the things on this list will become reality, but I don’t really see the phone being an “iphone killer” until windows mobile 7 comes out.
I love windows mobile 6 to death, but the normal Joe won’t appreciate all the customizing and registry edits to make it run just the way you want.

About the iPhone Killer thing.
IMO the iPhone’s success is due LARGELY in part to Advertising. Secondly due to Design and the Interface is a third.
I believe that when TMo releases their new network, they will advertise HEAVILY and a lot of that will be on their new line of phones.
People will discover that they can customize the hell out of any Windows Mobile phone (the iPhone is very limited in that aspect)
With the new High Speed, a better WinMo interface and better hardware (camera, gps, etc) plus the ability to Sync w/o problems on Windows (which more people/businesses have) add in some heavy marketing dollars and the iPhone will return to being an Apple customer thing.
Still to this day, people ask me ‘what phone is that?’ and just get all glassy eyed when I explain everything you can do with it.
I’ve played with the iPhone several times at length and still don’t ‘get it’ Maybe coming from a Windows Mobile background kills the luster of the iPhone. But when I play with it the only thing I like about it is the browser and multitouch zooming and flicking. But even when I compare THAT browser to PIE mobile sites it isn’t functional. It is fun though. Still takes too long to get to the content I want.
Lack of buttons is also a pain. Sending multiple pictures from the iPhone (or even multiple files) pales in comparision. Hell I can zip, rar, ftp, VNC, watch nearly any codec video, audio, sync with tons of programs, CHANGE my battery, upgrade memory, add any program, hack the registry without difficulty, UNLOCK and UPGRADE software/OS without killing it (or being afraid to)
And if worse comes to worst I can just Hard Reset and I get a fresh canvas.
No offense to iPhone or Apple fans but I think some people just like other people making decisions for them. >:)

i just hope this shadow II wont have any battery problems!!

Hostpot @ Home was already confirmed
Line here: http://tmonews.com/?p=23
I was suprised about it supporting T-Mobile’s new 3G Network, I thought they would leave that off of the Shadow II as it says on cellphonesignal.com. But, if it does include that I will definitely UPGRADE!
April 16th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
David, when we say something is confirmed we base it upon our sources not another website (unless it is HTC or T-Mobile’s website). We want to limit misinformation.
But I agree, having HotSpot@Home alone would make it worth an upgrade. I discussed the capability of having HotSpot@Home hacked into the current Shadow with some insiders and basically it boils down to hardware limitations. Software or not it still needs to have the ability to switch from WiFi to the cell network midcall without dropping the call. What would be REALLY great is if an HTC engineer for the current Shadow and a HotSpot@Home engineer got together on the side and cooked us up an app that would enable this.

My bad
April 16th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
is it going to be touch screen
April 16th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
David, I didn’t mean to sound short.
Charlie,
No it won’t be touchscreen as far as I can tell. T-Mobile more than likely won’t change the Shadow to touchscreen as they alread have a touchscreen phone (Wing)
If it was touchscreen then about 50% of applications people purchased/downloaded for the current Shadow wouldn’t work on the new one. Right now at least 90% will work on the new one.
April 16th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
im buying it as soon as it comes out.
T-mobile 3g…. HAHAHAHAHAHA….. So were going to have a new forum for our phones right ?
April 16th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Can anyone of you guys tell me that is Shadow compatible with a 4GB Micro SDHC Memory Card or not?! I would appreciate yall!!!!

Well, due to the suspected image, even if you don’t think they would make it touchscreen, it could be in the suspected image and we just don’t know it. We can’t see the thickness so we don’t know if it just slides out again. But the screen does seem pretty small for it to be touchscreen. I guess we’ll see when it comes.

Austin, yes it will be a slideout like what we have now. I forgot to mention that.
April 17th, 2008 at 6:05 am
will our shadows work with 3g
April 17th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
As far as I can tell, no the Current Shadow will not work with the new network. There won’t be many phones (except T-Mobile phones) that will work with the new high speed data network.
April 18th, 2008 at 1:34 am
i hope the shadow 2 is touch screen and is released in smaller areas soon i know it’s being released in Seattle, Portland and other of the larger t-mob areas 1st along with 3g the second wave og 3G should reach the smaller cities as well as the 3G phones

How about improved battery life?
April 18th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Yea.. that whole typing font instead of don’t, I never had ANY problems with that before the software update, I was always kinda wondering why everyone else complained about it, since the software update I CAN NOT get it to type anything other than font. That would be an awesome improvement.

I think it would be kinda nice to have a port to insert an external antenna or sumthing like that cause where I work i hardly get any signal, well just a thought.
April 20th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
i hope it doesnt have that shape cus thats ugly but u love all of the mods and wm6.1
April 21st, 2008 at 6:55 am
how about we skip the scroll wheel, which I find utterly useless, and we get a trackball, ala Blackberry Pearl?
very hand, indeed.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:39 am
I would really like to see the GPS added. The t9 is also really bad. It needs a lot of improvements. The font and don’t thing is extremely annoying. Also, first letter capitalization would be nice alla Blackberry. especially a letter I by itself!! I really should not have to go back an prof read my text messages. The Hot Spot at home is nice. That thing works great and I highly recommend it! I honestly wouldn’t care too much if the camera stated where it was at 2. That is not why I bought the phone. I am sure there is more but I will have to hey backup you on tha one. Ha!
April 29th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
I just ordered a Shadow from T-Mobile as an upgrade. Guess that they are trying to get the older stock out before the new one comes out. I’ll be bummed if they release this thing tomorrow! Any idea on a release date?

Skype capable? Even if it only works off of wifi?
May 4th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
Skype calling is with AT&T. T-Mobile is staying away from Skype to roll out it’s own services, seeing as T-Mobile is the only major cell service provider that doesn’t have money vested in land line service.
I have a Shadow with the software update and I don’t have a problem with the “don’t font” mine types don’t. The T9 software will default to the word used most when typing and if you have the “don’t font” problem you need to just change it to don’t and push the center button, but you will have to do it a multitude of times to counter the default font. Or you can do a master reset and use don’t from the get go?
As of now, T-Mobile only has 4 phones that will work with the new 3G network, and none of them are smartphones…….they are actually unlikely phones, but oh well.

2X LONGER BATTERY LIFE , PLEASE !!!
