Google2Go Brings Google Mobile Together

Posted by Mike Benton on April 2nd, 2008

It’s not owned by Google in anyway yet this freeware delivers a powerful punch by culminating all the Mobile Google services under one roof. Basically Google2Go is an instance of Internet Explorer wrapped with Google functionality. There is an easily accessible Menu (left soft key) that enables you to quickly access you favorite Google Services. It is a direct competitor to Yahoo Go and MSN Direct and in my opinion a much more elegant solution. The memory foot print is low and device compatibility is fairly broad. Read on for more details

The Menu lists the major components of Google’s Mobile Offerings: Search, Local, Gmail, Calendar, Reader, Docs, News, Picasa, Checkout, Products, Blogger, Directions, and Notes.

The Gmail sub menu is very useful as it links to Inbox, Compose, Drafts, Contacts and All Mail.

The News sub-menu covers All, US, World, Entertainment, Sports, Sci/Tech, Business and Health. Google’s News Beta seems to be working well enough.

Google Docs Mobile doesn’t allow for editing of files but you can access Word and Excel type documents. Sorry no PowerPoint yet L….

Google Notebook is Google’s attempt at an online Notebook. It is very basic and has one advantage over other offerings: mobile access and editing. It may not be fully featured but Google just likes the basics anyways.

Annoyances: Google2Go is an elegant solution to the Google user’s plight. One thing that bugs me about it is the Exit soft key. Exit should be hidden in the Menu and the Right Soft Key should be ‘Back’ for better navigation. Other than that Good Work.

If you want to download Google2Go you can get it at TheTechTurf.com in the Downloads section.

This may be a dumb question, but when I got in to Google Reader and open up a story, how can i go back to the main reader menu without having to go all the way back to the start up screen? If i click the bck button it closes me out of Google2Go.
    Thanks

Which version of the software do we need to download? The smartphone version?

Dester, there should be a green link for the feed your are reading near the top or a Google Reader Home link. I posted a suggestion on the Google2Go about changing the Exit to Back

Vinstant, yes download the smartphone version
