Here’s How to See the Clock on Every Screen

If you use your Shadow as much as I do then you probably find yourself going to the home screen often to see the time. Download the Clock On Top with 12 hr Format file, extract the .cab file and execute it on your Smartphone. After installation turn your phone off then back on. You should see it on every screen except the home screen (it has it’s own clock).

For those of you that are wondering what the Russian text says, it basically asks if you want to turn the clock off. So once it’s running you don’t need to mess with it anymore.

Thanks to Joe for sending this in. Enjoy!

Some More Neo Screen Goodness

From the forums, ShadowMike shows off some skills with a simplified installer for the Neo theme he has been working on. If you want to get in on the action check out the thread on FullScreen Neo Theme Release. He even threw in some iPhone themes. From his description:

This is going to be released in 2 different versions. 1 Version for those that want to quickly install this and the 2nd version will be for those who want to continue working on this theme and edit the images to their liking. all images will be grouped for easier editing.”

There are other backgrounds available and with some editing you can easily change your own backgrounds.

A big THANKS to ShadowMike for this cool addition.

CyberBuddha is at it again, this time with a custom start up screen. To create your own just go to http://www.reddodo.com and pick a template. Then in the simple words of CyberBudda “rename it to “TMO_Shadow.gif”, then copy it into \windows directory”

If you want the image above simply right click and save to your computer. If you feel especially proud of your own creation you can show it off in this thread on Personalized Animated GIFs.

CyberBuddha has put together a quick package to help you change your Pocket Internet Explorer homepage. Go to this thread and download the .zip file he posted and follow his instructions. It’s quick and easy. In addition to changing the search engine to Google you can also change your background image to whatever you want.

How to Get ‘My Location’ Working in Google Maps

Posted by Mike Benton on March 9th, 2008

This should have been posted a long time ago but for some reason I just didn’t see that this was the reason it worked. In Google Maps for Window Mobile there is a feature called ‘My Location.’ It uses cell tower triangulation to basically zero in on your location within a certain range of error. This can be helpful when leaving the airport in a new city or if you are prone to waking up in strange places. It operates similarly to Navizon. In order for that to work you need to App unlock your phone before installing Google Maps.

There are two ways to do this. The first is to create a new DWORD entry in your registery under HKLM > Security > Policies > Policies with a value of 0000101b and DWORD = 1. Thanks to SurrealNetworks

If you don’t know what I just said then simply download and install the SurrealNetworks App Unlock

Is This The Shadow II?

There is some buzz lately about T-Mobile’s new MDA Compact IV that is supposedly being released in Europe. The details are scarce but promising and a quick look at the picture and anyone can see it looks incredibly like the Shadow. No official word on if it is coming to the US but we can only hope. Here are the specs I could find and I am sure more are to come so stay tuned.

Rumored Specs:

  • 3 Megapixel Autofocus Camera - Even better pictures!

  • 4GB Internal Memory - Ready for music and movies right out of the box

  • VGA Screen (640×480) - Imagine the beauty of your videos on this one!

  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE

  • Triband UMTS/HSDPA up to 7.2Mbps - That’s pretty damn fast, I would have to see this in person

  • Bluetooth 2.0 - Good to know

  • Wifi b/g - Always a plus

  • GPS is rumored - If this is the Shadow 2, then it BETTER have GPS. I see no reason why any Windows Mobile phone shouldn’t be rolled out without GPS nowadays

We’re curious - are you coming from a Sidekick, wanting something a bit more grown up, or did you upgrade from a plain old “dumbphone”?
