Important Reminder about Post Order Poll

Posted by Mike Benton on March 21st, 2008

We still need more input from the AllShadow Community about post orders. Vote on this poll to say whether you would like the newest post at the top of each thread and the oldest on the last page or to leave it as it is.

This is a big change so it is important that we get as much input from the community as possible. There are some comments here as well.

This poll is ridiculous. I’ve been on dozens of forums and none of them use “top posting”. Even within Usenet, top posting is considered bad form. I guarantee that if you switch format, you’ll switch back quickly after all of the complaints.

Did someone’s mom call and complained? Why change the order of the forum postings? Is it that bad? If your system can’t support users of both styles, then I say leave it alone. Very long threads will turn into chatrooms where people reply without reading what came before and referencing previous posts will be much harder (can’t use page number and each post does not have a number).

I’ve seen some forums where the original post is present at the top of each page, which helps keep thing on topic. I would rather have that change than this. Imagine that the thread goes off topic for a while. New readers will just see the new posts and skip the thread without thinking to start reading from earlier posts.

    Thanks for the insight, guys.

Also, imagine wading through a few pages of BUMPS to get to the original topic…

Yep keep it the same. New postings at bottom.

Too many newb users go off-topic.

Unless the moderators deleted the off-topic postings to keep the thread focused.
