How Can We Make AllShadow.com Better?

Posted by Brandon Miniman on February 21st, 2008

Ok guys - it’s time for you to sound off on what you would like to see at AllShadow.com.  Mike and I have some interesting things in the works for down the line, but until then, how can we make AllShadow.com a better resource for you?  Live chats?  More software suggestions?  Tshirts?  Contests?  Additional forums?  More walk-throughs?  Tell us in the comments, and be creative!

I would like to see a “Walk-through” or a “How to” section or forum for some of us who are not familar with things like:
    Registry Editing
    Creating your own theme
    Adding NES and other emulators

While I have found out how to do these things by weeding through different threads. I think a section walking us “noobs” through step by step would be benificial.

Another would be a “free-downloads” area, which will cross link things like rinkus dockstation, freddy reyes themes instead of having to search for the threads.
Love the forum keep up the good work.

I agree with the above, a well documented tutorial is the gold standard. Tutorials that offer a video overview and a more in depth text version are the best in my experience.

I think a good model for Allshadow.com would be Lifehacker.com, a mix of hacks, tricks and tips with an emphasis on productivity.

Definitely a FAQ section. Certain things seem to get asked over and over. Basically I am agreeing with the first post as well. :)

I would like to see a Tutorial/F.A.Q. Section. in the forums.

also additional forums for specific modifications. such as a forum for themes made by the community, and possibly sub forums in the hacks forum for registry hacks, software hacks, etc.

that will make the forums more organized and less cluttered.

Contests are a good way to keep people coming back to the site. It doesn’t have to be often and small things from the store should be sufficient.

I know forums are for the tech guys and searching for info is like breathing to them, but making the site more user friendly like suggested above will attract a lot more shadow owners. So if you enjoy the apple business model, go for it.

Monthly giveaways of $10 gift cards/coupons to the shadow store or atleast the software section.

How about a directory listing of sites with compatible software

Forums are good for Q & A but not for a library of how-tos and tips etc. Having a bunch of stickied threads is clunky and hard to use.

You should have a wiki set up where good tips and posts are organized and summarized without all the chit-chat, and where they will not “degrade” over time.

IMO — this website doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. MoDaCo and XDA Developers pretty much have device related stuff covered.

What happens when the Shadow reaches the end of it’s product-life?

I think a live chat would be great. Whether it be with someone in particular, or just with users around the forum. That way, if I, for example, have a question, I don’t have to wait till someone responds to my post. I can just message it and then someone will instantly respond. I’m sure we will have at least a couple users active at a time, and as the site grows we will have more.

Also, contests are another great thing to keep users coming back to the forums. One idea for a first contest could be for people to refer other to this site. If the user registers on the site, they can say they got this website show by (person’s username). Whoever has the most wins something, maybe a free item for the store?

Just some ideas, I’m sure you’ll come up with more for us to love!

Maybe I missed the link somewhere, but I’d like a version of the site that’s fast and formatted for mobile browsing. The forums especially look like crap and take forever to load on my shadow.

answer the comments on “ask MIKE”? I asked about compatible freeware the second day the section was up! i still end up at smartphone-freeware.com and have to search through thousands of downloads that are incompatible. there should be a freeware link on this sight!

Hey guys i need help sending album art to my phone. the music sends perfectly but not the album cover. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

  • Brandon Miniman said:

Excellent tips, guys. Mike and I will hit the drawing board with all of these suggestions.

Benji: one of the reasons we started a site devoted to the Shadow is because there is most likely going to be a second Shadow released on T-Mobile sometime this year.

Tyler Durden: yes, there is a mobile version of the site. Just visit AllShadow.com via your device and you’ll see it.

jason: check out our Support forum, and you’ll get your question answered:

I would like to see when we are finish with the application that it would automatically close the application without having to go to TASK MANAGER to stop the application every time to save the battery.

Hey Mike, I have a mac and love the shadow, I think it would really help to have directions for both PC and Mac users, or maybe a “For Mac Users” section. People will be comforted to see that you can use the shadow just as smoothly with a mac.

You guys are GREAT. Keep up the fantastic job. I would like to learn how to add the calculator and games to my homepage. I’ve read a few posts on how to do it but it seems very complicated. I would hope someone will create a download to accomplish this so I can avoid having to make the registry changes myself. Thanks again for having the webiste !!!!!

You guys are doing great! keep it up, however I would love to see your postings organized by subject, I hate it when i find a good posting than i have to search it or go to the month when it was published. Thank you, keep up the great work, and let me know if theres a way to select multiple items on the shadow, thanks..

  • Brandon Miniman said:

Luis — we have a really fantastic search at the top right of the website that will help you find all of the content that interests you. Plus it searches our forum.
