Ok. If you’ve reg. edited you shadow to get panorama pictures your going to have to install the old camera program as the new camera program is in portrait and no longer displays panorama correctly.
Other then that this update is great.
However i have seen “SLIGHT” batt increase… 5 - 10% more then normal at end of day… I would like to see 20 - 25% more at end of day but.. oh well..

I really liked the update for the shadow, the enhanced text entry is really good, now has T9 My Words which is good, and remembers what words you use a lot, fixes that annoying font thing that always happened no matter how many times you used Don’t, i’ve also seen some batt life increase, and speed increase, batt life is about 10-15% better for me
If you havent updated do it!

the update seems ok, but i don’t like the change of the camera to portrait mode instead of landscape mode

i did the update! and it went smoothly! But it seems to actually slow down the phone more! not too happy with it! especially having to re do all of my registry edits! If you have done a lot of modding….. i wouldn’t suggest it! not worth the time spent fixing it!

The first day after the update I couldn’t believe how much longer the battery lasted. 2nd day: Maybe it is because I was expecting it, but the 2nd day didn’t seem to last as long. I’ll see how today goes. I kinda wish you had the option to change portrait or landscape mode for taking pictures. I am still getting font for don’t so that wasn’t an improvement. Overall I like the update…hopefully T-mobile will keep the updates coming especially when Windows Mobile 6.1 comes out. That update looks very promising and I can not wait.

I’ve seen an increased in batt life as well. Hoping for more of an increase in the next update. The slight texting upgrade was pretty good. The only thing that I didn’t like about the update, was the change to portrait mode. But you can fix that by editing the registry in your phone, but anyway…. Other than that….the update was worth it. If you haven’t done the update on your phone,…give it a try.

Did not see to much of a diffrence the driving directions shortcut is a nice feature and im going to agree with a 5-10 percent increase in battery life.

I want to do this upgrade but what is going on with the camera? What is portrait mode? I like the camera the way it is. I may not do the upgrade if the camera is worst. I use the camera alot. I know some of you have said that there is a way to get it back to the original version. Can someone explain further?

I updated two days ago. Love the update. I had planned on doing it but later. After I found out that it had the alarm clock fixed, I applied it that day. I hated having to run the sktools every time I decided to change my alarm time. Also the task manager locking up doesn’t seem to be an issue anymore. Anyone else? I don’t really understand everyone’s statement about the portrait vs. landscape on the camera. I just turn my phone 90 degrees and it changes the picture.

The update isn’t bad at all. I really enjoy it. There is a little bit of change in battery life that i noticed but it isn’t too much. The phone seems faster to use, and a bit smoother when alot of applications are running. I liked the audio postcards but i hate the T-Mobile ad thing that says T-Mobile Postcard in the bottom left of the picture you take; but i do like the frame of the pictures. I also enjoy the new picture themes.I think you should go ahead and make the update, but make sure that your contacts are saves on outlook to since and that you have a backup of EVERYTHING:D

thanks for the feedback everyone. sounds like some give and take because i like hearing that the battery life is better and less locking up, but i def gotta wait to backup things on my phone and i also like the original photo taking. portrait mode is taking pictures with phone being held like you normally view your phone rather than sideways if im correct

Very pleased with the update. The camera mode really not to big of a deal to me. When rotating the phone the camera changes from portrait to lancscape mode automatically, but when making adjustments with the menu options, it will only allow to to do this in the portrait mode. But I hear there is already a quick fix for those who want to change there camera back to the landscape mode.
Overall very pleased with the update and looking forward to the next one.

I’ve really dug into the update and did a little unscientific benchmarking, one thing I’ve noticed is a tweak of the wifi, before there was really no difference between the bandwidth when connected to 802.11b or g now when in g mode it is flying and skype works much better.

I did the upgrade this weekend. I don’t really notice any changes in the phones performance but I see a few new menu options and the camera which still works great. I was sketchy about upgrading because of the complaints about the camera. There is a easy fix to switch to the old version which I did but soon switched back to the updated version. It works the same as the old one. I was just use to using and seeing the old version and became accustom to it. I did not notice a change in the battery life because I have never had a constant problem with the battery life except for once. It died a hour or so after a full nights charge after constant text messaging for about 15 min????? I don’t know what the deal was but it has not happened since and I still use the phone aggressively. I even watch videos on the bus to and from work. But over all I am glad for the update and hope more will come in the future that does not require saving all the info on the phone and re installing all the 2nd party programs.

Just did this yesterday. I threw all my backup into the tmobile documents folder on the desktop. Ofcourse, after rebooting and getting some nw free pics and 2 songs, all the stuff I needed and loved had been wiped from the face of the earth.. Be sure to put your backup someplace other than the Tmobile folder. It was a bit buggy after I re-installed all my tweaks, but seems to be ok now. It remains to be seen if the battery life is better. I hope I didnt go through all that crap for 2 free Avril Lavine/Dave Mathews band songs…

I love what the update comes with, but ever since I downloaded it my phone has been dropping calls, the audio is real staticky, and my callers can’t hear me as well.
I’d say download at your own risk!

Has anyone run into complications with this update? I ran into errors with it being unable to detect my device and after about 2 hours with tech support -(which resulted in actually bricking my phone) - they ended up having to send me a new phone. That said, the new phone won’t update either. My active sync is connected, etc and as soon as the update starts you can hear active sync power down and then the update stales out saying unable to detect your device. Anyone else run into this?
Cheers~

*Update* For whatever reason, taking out the SD card made it work - I’m not sure if that was coincidence or not, but I’m up and jammin now.

You can get better battery life and faster processing by installing a processor clock.
I don’t know about everyone else, but “enhanced text entry” isn’t enough of a reason to waste the house I’ve put in modding this phone.
February 14th, 2008 at 6:59 am
any recommended sites to find/download the processor clock?
March 27th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
I know none of us ever read directions, but the update does say that you have to remove the sd card before the update. And as for having to redo all of your tweaks, when you do an update on a windows mobile operating system, you are really reformatting the drive and installing a newer version of the same os. If you ever had to update a blackberry, you did the same thing, hence the version 5.2.711. The next version would be 5.x.xxx, and if Win Mo 6.1 is based off of Windows CE like all the others have been, then it will most likely be 6.x.xxx
As for the battery life, I haven’t noticed a difference. I still have to charge mine after a few hours of use. Why can’t they just make a better battery for cell phones?!? It is 2008 for crying out loud! We have been using lithium ions for 5 or so years! It is time for better technology! Ok, I am done now.

i dont see any battery increase, i hope they would make a extended battery, what ever happened those?
