Before you go clicking on and updating your Shadow please understand some things. There aren’t many software improvements in this update as far as I can tell. It is more of a fun update than anything else. If you do decide to update your Shadow with the new ROM update be advised you will completely erase all information from your phone and will be starting over from scratch. That being said, perform a complete and full synchronization of the Shadow with your PC and even take a minute to write down what you have installed yourself and any hacks you have done so you can restore these faster.
What the update includes:
- Five free ring tones from popular movies and musicians.
- Two free full length songs.
- An assortment of free phone wall paper images.
- Audio Postcard, a fun new myFaves connecting experience.
- Enhanced myFaves and menu graphics.
- Improved text entry experience.
With that being said you can go here for the update.
EDIT: You can also discuss this with other Shadow owners in this thread in our forums.

I am curious to know what exactly this “Improved text entry experience” really is.

I’m curious about the “Improved text entry” as well. Hmmmm…..
Also, reset to factory settings means what exactly. Do I need to back-up all my programs and contacts and stuff. Yikes. Scared of this update.

I just finished the update, I sync’d my info and used PPCPimBackup to save all my text messages and other settings. I then removed the microSD card and did the back up which took about 15 to 20 minutes total.
I’m looking forward to the Improved text entry blurb as well. I hope that i can spell out don’t instead of font, and see instead of are on a regular basis. It would be nice if when entering unknown words and you select letters using left and right that it would not try to second guess your decision and change your previous selections.

It seems like this update is filler. The only thing I’m interested in is the improved texting, even though I like the way it is now. Except that it doesn’t automatically which to numeric format for entering numbers. After reading the Gadgeteer review seem like they only improved the symbol selection screen. Ill wait for the next one.

i agree with Micheal i hate that when you go to type don’t it spells font and no matter how many types you use don’t it still uses font. Lookin for good things with this update

[...] A supervisor at T-Mobile just sent me an email detailing some additional features in the most recent update ROM for the T-Mobile Shadow. It’s great to know that T-Mobile listens and cares about the community and aims to correct problems we have. Here are the changes/updates/features in the new ROM: [...]

I font see the update (little joke there…I’m typing this in from a keyboard.) but when I navigate to the link from allshadow.com, I get a big white space, a menu with “update” in bold, and a footer. When I click the update link, I just get redirected back to the same page. Did they pull the update?

Carl,
Do you have Flash on your browser? I just checked and it’s still there
February 7th, 2008 at 10:31 am
No Flash. I need Flash to update my phone?
February 7th, 2008 at 10:52 am
My Windows Mobile phone?
February 7th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Carl, no I meant on your PC because the linked to page uses flash
February 7th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
I understand, Mike. My desktop computer browser doesn’t have Flash installed. Flash, you might be surprised to learn, is not installed on all computers.
(begin rant)
Furthremore, and I’m sure no one at T-Mobile ever anticipated this: some employers actually block (yes, folks, BLOCK) flash content at their firewalls. Okay, pick yourselves up off the floor folks. Believe me my life would be so much more rewarding if I had access to all the quality programming found on YouTube, but alas I simply don’t go there.
(end rant)
I Got No Flash, T-Mobile. Now what?
February 8th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Carl, I recommend either using a portable browser with Flash installed or going to a computer with less restrictions.

When i go to install it it tells me it isnt a windows ce program. help!?!?!
February 15th, 2008 at 10:11 am
Is the update free?
February 19th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
So I used the PPCPIM backup as Micheal used and installed the new update without a hitch. Except my downloaded YouTube videos (using TCPMP) won’t play sound anymore. The error reads “Player:Audio codec(MP3) not supported by the play!” Anyone know how to fix this? They all worked before the update.
Other than that, not much different. The “Settings” page looks different with glowing icons now. The text is has marginally better prediction but not anything too drastic. Haven’t tried the goodies (free downloads, etc) yet.
I wouldn’t have updated if I could because I just wasted almost 3 hours!

One more thing…the audio postcards are really cool but probably won’t get used much.

i have an htc shadow, my only problem with it is that i can’t put mp3 songs as my text message alert, if i do, when i get a text message, the whole song will play instead of stopping when i open the message, how can i fix this?
April 21st, 2008 at 8:46 am
Use a song editor, such as power mp3 cutter which has a decent free trial version, to make the segment you would like to play. Then put that segment onto your phone and voila you have it.

Thus you could make the song shorter or combine different songs…
