This post is a follow on to the post about watching “How to Watch Online Video“. Many of you have discovered that TCPMP is great for watching almost all video on the Shadow. One thing I noticed about TCPMP, as wonderful as it is, is the occasional jumpiness and laggy video. After messing with the settings I have found some that work really well.

From the main video screen press Options > Buffering > and double the number in the Normal Buffer Size field. Press Ok

Back at the main video screen again press Options > Video > Video Driver and Select ‘GDI’. Back at your main screen start the video and you should notice a huge improvement while playing your downloaded videos. Enjoy!

is there a way to use this program with the $5.99 web plan using the proxy server? iv asked this before but i haven’t received an answer yet.

will changing the “preload at underrun” help the video load faster, if yes, what percent?
January 5th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
The best way to have smooth flv video, streamed or downloaded, is to put in those settings and overclock your processor.
January 5th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
Oh yea, there’s no streaming with the $5.99 plan. Get on wi-fi or spend $20 .

I would try it Benji. Probably, but I could be wrong. He’s talking about the proxy, not just the plan, Fred.

I tryed that but I dont have any buffering option, what should I do?

how can i get my mp4 and mpg files to play on my shadow?
January 6th, 2008 at 1:59 am

Mike Benton, do you know if you can hook up the usb cord to ur laptop or computer and take games off of it and put it on ur shadow. Please put a post on this.

Thanks Adre, now it works fine.

I did changed the size and youtube videos load faster but not on veoh

Ok lemme correct my statement. Streaming anything through TCPMP or WMP doesn’t work with the proxy…for me, at least…but VTap does! I was browsing HoFo and someone posted a thread saying that it did. I tested it, and although it’s slow, it works.

ok so i have downloaded both the the flash video bundle and the tcpmp smartphone 072rc1 but every time i go to youtube or myspace it says that i either have javascript turned of or need a new flash player……so how do i turn it on or wat else do i need to download???
January 7th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
In order for the flash to work you have to, with your phone on, take the battery out for a few seconds, then turn it back on and goto start > video websites > youtube > then just click the video then click play. If you still cant play it, download both again. Hope that helps.

Does anyone know how to make the video even better on youtube than mikes post says? my videos are still almost unwatchable.
January 7th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
thanx all that did the trick but how do u get it to buffer faster??????? ps were is the MAIN VIDEO SCREEN????
January 7th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
is there a way to fast ford and rewind videos
January 7th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
options\settings\select page\ buffering…..mike didnt mention that part about select page. to buffer faster goto what I just told you then double the buffer size that is there. It will run a little smoother then, but not perfect.
January 7th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
hope that helps!
January 8th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
There doesnt really seem to be a way to fast forward and rewind
January 9th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
to Alex - you can “skip forward” or “skip back” by clicking the navigation wheel left or right when on the main video screen. Or click up or down when on full screen mode.

January 10th, 2008 at 12:05 pm

what is the regular “Preload for Audio”? (number in the box)

Even with the GDI driver set and the 4K+ buffer, my playback still stops every 3-5 seconds to buffer. This occurs over EDGE as well as WiFi. Does the Preload at underrun setting affect performance at all?

If you, like me, just want to watch your favorite videos off YT (or Google, Veoh, etc.) I find that if you load the entire video and then save it to a playlist, it’ll play the video with barely any hiccups.
Also play with the settings mentioned here and see what works best for your phone. I still have buffer issues - though not nearly as bad - and that’s how I discovered this method.
