With the Holidays here, many of you are traveling to different destinations and might be using Live Search, Google Maps, or Yahoo Go on your Shadows to help out with directions and traffic. One item that makes the mobile map applications on Windows Mobile much more functional is a bluetooth GPS.
If you are receiving a new bluetooth GPS sometime soon. Click Read More for a short walkthrough on setting it up on your Shadow so you can enjoy the full range of benefits of knowing where you are.
Following the instructions that came with your Bluetooth GPS, place it into pairing mode. Many BT (Bluetooth) GPS’s just need to be turned on and automatically accept pairing.
On your Shadow go to Start > Comm Manager > Settings > Bluetooth. On the next screen, select Bluetooth again and then Add New Device.
The Shadow will begin looking for new bluetooth devices. If you successfully placed your BT GPS into pairing mode then it should find it.
You can keep the given GPS name or change it to what you want.
I haven’t found any reason to check the ‘Serial Port’ box, you can leave it unchecked as well. Select Done
On the Bluetooth Devices screen press the Menu key and select COM Ports.
From this screen again select Menu and ‘New Outgoing Port’. Highlight your BT GPS and press Select.
The next screen should have a port selected already, remember the port number and press Done.
Congratulations! Your Bluetooth GPS is now paired with your T-Mobile Shadow. Now you can find your way through the Winter Wonderland.

had no trouble getting my shadow, either. What exactly do you need to connect your GPS to your shadow for? If your GPS is physically in front of you (to connect via bluetooth) then why use your shadow for this?
Am I missing something?
By the way, using mobile version of your site now. Very nice!

Phil,
Bluetooth GPS’s usually do not have a screen or buttons but connect to you device so you can get better directions and searches through applications like Live Search, Google Maps and Yahoo GO

Makes sense.
And I guess for units that have screens, you can use the speakerphone and touchscreen to make calls (e.g. Garmin nuvi 360).
I read your other article on the Navizon. I just want to make sure - I suppose this means that the Shadow does not have native GPS support, like using the Garmin Mobile XT microSD card? I read the Garmin website and the Shadow is not listed under compatible devices but was hoping Garmin’s website wasn’t up-to-date yet.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve had the Nuvi 360 since mid March 2007. I’ve also had other Cell phones that are not listed as compatible and have had no issues. At present, I’m using the Nuvi 360 with my Shadow WITHOUT ISSUES!
