If you’re on the T-Mobile network and are looking for a new phone, you’re probably also at looking at other smartphone devices in addition to the Shadow. The below graphic should be of some help in giving you an idea of how the Shadow compares in size to some other T-Mobile devices on the market now.
Seen above front left to right is the T-Mobile Dash (yellow), the Wing (green), Shadow (red), and BlackBerry Pearl 8100 (purple). If you’re looking for the thinnest device, the Dash is the clear winner. That said, the Shadow has very similar dimensions to the Pearl, a device that many consider to be easily pocketable.

although the blackberry is very handy and elegant.
the shadow is a lot more easily to operate. i owned a pearl before switching to the shadow. im more satisfied with the shadow. the keyboard is almost the same. but the buttons are a bit bigger which to my personal use its a lot better. so with that said., between the shadow and the pearl. i would mos def take the shadow. and windows mobile is so much easier to operate than the blackberry system., and with windows mobile well the possibilities see almost endless…

Rocko - did you like the scrolling “pearl” on the BlackBerry? I like the idea of having a four way navigation without having to lift my thumb.

You know, I went from a touch screen pocket pc to the Shadow. Even though I just flashed my old wizard with a new high speed rom, I haven’t picked it up since my Shadow came. It truly is a well though out experience and I hope software developers keep this in mind when developing for the Shadow, that we are spoiled now

Yes i tried out the Pearl before I bought my shadow (which is absolutely amazing by the way, Brandon) and the “scrolling ‘pearl’” as you call it is cool, but in long emails/texts/webpages/ its annoying to scroll down with it. The shadow’s scroll wheel is much more functional in my opinion, because you don’t need to lift your finger, but you can keep scrolling through pages and choices.

I just bought the shadow but I have not recieved it yet. I have been reading all the reviews all over the web and c net gives it a t7-7.5 out of a 10 which is just above average. Now I am asking myself DID I MAKE A BIG MISTAKE ? I have 14 days to decide once i get it which should be in two days. Almost every U Tube vidio on the shadow gives it a crappy review. I guess this is more of a question than a comment but IS THE SHADOW REALLY WORTH SPENDING THE MONEY ON? I hear it freezes constantaly and that it runs really slow from one application to another UNLESS YOU are on WIFI and that WIFI Drains thae battery life fast. SO NOW IM WONDERING IF I MADE A MISTAKE. I had looked at the WING but i didn’t like the way if felt. I like the design and the screen the camera and now i have found how to upload movies and TV and VIDEOS which no one on here has spoken about. Having a nephue who worked for microsoft for years helps since he has all the applications anyone would need to add video (MOVIES) and knows where to go to download tv shows such as LOST and HEROES. There are also alot of software for this phone from HANDANGO for live TV for around $28.00
After hearing and seeing so many bad reviews I can’t help but ask all of you IS THIS PHONE REALLY ANY GOOD? Compared to the other smart phones availible by T-Mobile. I hear the keyboard is a pain in the ass to learn how to use. SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWERE ME I NEED REAL ADVISE FROM THOS OF YOU WHO HAVE THE PHONE>

Randy I looked all over and I can personally say that it is one of the best phones i have ever used. All the reviews? Apparently they used a test version of the Shadow because alot of the complaints they had have not been relevent to my Shadow. They say that the scroll wheel is slippery and should have sonft touch paint? It does have soft touch paint on the wheel! They say that call quality is sub-par? Loud and clear on my handset! Plus no dropped calls! The best part is, wifi is free! So I don’t even have a data plan but I’mn on the internet all the time because of wifi. The keyboard has no learning curve AT ALL! MUCH MUCH MUCH better than T9. I type so much faster on my Shadow than on my other numerical keypad.
Take my word, the keyboard is great. Trust me. After an hour I was typing faster than ever.
THE SCREEN is AWESOME! Every time I show it to anyone, they’re always like “Look how big the screen is!” Plus the device itself is small, so it dominates the front face of the Shadow.
Web-browsing is great on the Shadow, and if you download Opera Mini from this website its even more like a desktop web browser.
Windows Mobile 6 has so many different downloadable programs its amazing. I have Google Maps on my phone, Yahoo! to Go, a radio program, and a TV program. Its pretty awesome.
The best part: it looks and feels really expensive. When you hold it in your hand, you feel like you’re holding a $300 device. Its cool.
GET IT! Trust me! Everyone is so jealous of me now that I own the Shadow.
Search “T-Mobile Shadow First Look” on Youtube and watch the video By WMExperts. That review almost captures how great this phone is.
I too, was skeptical about the Shadow. Even after playing with it at the T-Mobile Store, I still had some doubts. But once I actually owed the device and elarned of how all the reviewers are wrong, that’s when i fell in love with it. you know a device is good when a site is dedicated to it.

Rob what TV Program do you have. and i live in seattle so wifi is everywhere so are you saying that I wont have to order the $20.00 plan t mobile offers to get the net. ? Doesn’t wifi use the battery life badly? And the tv program? does it give you abc cbs nbc and cable channels etc. also have you figured out how to upload movies from your dvd collection ? It sounds great and I had already ordered it I was just having a lot of 2nd thoughts after so many shitty reviews. I have also seen the first look you are talking about and loved it. The screen is what sold me to begin with I was like HOLY #($*# and with windows i know that microsoft is going to continue upgrades monthly so it wont grow old fast. Thank you alot man i needed the kick now i jjst want it to get here

NEW INFO RE 411 Calls
I spoke to a T mobile rep today and im not sure if any of you guys know this I didn’t but he told me not to dial 411 for phone numbers this is what he said to do instead.
This is run by Google:
Text message the NAME of the person or place ie (a restaurant, Theatre etc.) the City ie (SEATTLE) and the State IE (WA) etc. in the message area of your text message. then under contact to send to type in 46645 ( this is suppose to spell out Google its one # short) but its still suppose to work hit send and you will get the phone number information for the place or person you are trying to reach through GOOGLE on a text back to you.
Also if you want help for the handset you are using regardless of what handset it is he told me to type in
HELP under message and the same number 46645 as the address you are sending the text to GOOGLE again and you will recieve a message re help for the Handset you are using so for us Shadow users we should all get more info and help from GOOGLE by just asking for HELP in a text message and addressing 46645 in the address field.
I hope this works for you im trying it on my nokia just for shits n giggles if it does not work i will be let you know.
P.S> Thanks again ROB

They both work great i typed in the keg seattle washington and it in the message area of the nokia (so this will work on the shadow too) and it gave me every KEG restarurant in the seattle area.
I also typed in Help iin the message area and the text i got back tell you what to type in the message area such as sports: seattle seahawks for seahawk info or, STOCKS: Goog, for stocks or (M)ovies m 94114 for movie information, Local: blockbuster sf for info on blockbuster and much more the text number is actually 466453 which spells Google and it works for every phone I hope this infor helps you out.
December 11th, 2007 at 10:41 am
shit sorry guys type in 46645 in the address bar and for movies type in movies: and then the zip code, ty0e in blockbuster and then the city for blockbuster vidio info type in weather: and the city and state for weather in your area it works i have done it.
But type in Help in the message area first and it will give you all the info on what excactly to type in for all different types of iinfo and even a space for more info if what you are looking for isnot found. thanks sorry for the mistake.

Yes wifi is FREE! One hundred percent free! I’m always on the internet on wifi and I dont get charged for it! This is especially helpful for downloading freeware because you have to go on the internet. T-Mobile EDGE network is really slow and wifi is just as fast (if not faster) than the 3G networks the other companies have. And if you have wifi everywhere then you’re in luck, because the Shadow automatically switches to the strongest wifi network.
i have a program called PocketTV, and I don’t use it much. The Yahoo! Go 2.0 program supplies hundreds of shorter video clips of news and viral videos. But my radio program, Mundo Radio, is great and had alot of different channels of different types of music. And its all freeware so all I pay for is texting. (I’m sure you can find a great movie freeware if you look for one, they’re everywhere)
T-Mobile gives you a 14 day period to return the product if you don’t like or anything, so make your final decision when it gets there. But trust me man, everyone is SO jealous of my Shadow. They all pull out their phones and say, “What a peice of crap!” It’s great.
Also, on another note, Windows Media Player on the Shadow is great. The sound quality really surprised me. I’m listening to my Shadow right now and it sounds like my computer speakers, so I have no doubt that movies will be an enjoyable experience, especially on full wide screen mode.
Yes, unfortunatly, the Shadow’s battery life is a little less than average, but it wil DEFINATELY get you through the day. Some times when I’m in one place for a long time (like my house), I just plug it in and give a quick charge. Surprisingly, it charges very, very fast, so I have no complaints.
Here are some quotes from reviewers that I disagree with:
“not any more stylish or capable than the competition”
- MUCH more stylish and just as capable (most smart phones look like bricks with buttons, but the Shadow’s design is weel thought out and beautiful)
“Cnet rating: 7.0 out of 10.0″
-I use Cnet all the time, but I have to disagree with their review, or their rating really. Throughout their review, they give no good reason why they didn’t give this phone a higher score. The worst part is, they don’t talk about the UI, which is fantastic.
READ! The review entitled “Reaching for Apple, Falling Short” on the NYTimes website, has been criticized by bloggers and professional reviewers alike for its incredible bias and un-called-for criticism. I have read at least five articles telling me how this article is “what not to write” in a review.
I hope you enjoy the phone! Ask me any other questions you want and they will be answered as soon as possible.

Also if you find any other Shadow reviews you want me to dispute, give me a link and I’ll look over it.
December 11th, 2007 at 12:37 pm
The review by pocketnow.com (there’s a link from this website, “A comprehensive review of the Shadow”) is also great and provides tons of pictures and the like.
December 11th, 2007 at 12:52 pm
From the next article I found this great link to an absolutely AMAZING freeware called Viigo. The most user friendly software on my device. Go to the nest article about RSS feeds and the secong comment contains the link.

Randy, one last thing. Go to the article “How to watch Online Video” and do what it says EXCEPT don’t delete the file he tells you too (it messed up the application for me).
YOU CAN WATCH VERY YOUTUBE VIDEO EVER!!
BETTER THAN THE IPHONE!
December 13th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
alright im typing this comment off of my copper shadow (which in my opinion color-wise is the best) im counting on my Nintendo ds clock how long this is going to take and this is actually amazing i never really liked t9 maybe because i never really understood how to type using it but i must say, THIS IS GREAT! the shadow was actually my second choice to the brown sidekick lx but being that it cost so much with the flex-pay factor i got the shadow as a lucky second choice i looked at the blackberry but the 1.3 mp camera turned me off so i was like eff it and got the shadow seen all the reviews and it didn’t phase me wifi is the greatest using the shadow if anyone is still having doubts i suggest you throw that out the window!! AND I WROTE THIS IN UNDER 5 MINUTES
