How to Install the Alternative Browser Opera Mini 4

Posted by Mike Benton on December 5th, 2007

Awhile back Danny asked about Opera Mini 4. In this video we go over a quick install of the alternative browser Opera Mini 4 and a few features. If you just want to jump right into it, you can get Opera Mini 4 here, download the High Memory Version.

Note: Opera Mini 4 should work right out of the box with default T-Mobile settings. If it doesn’t you might want to review them with customer service.

    Hey Mike,
Thanks for the response!! I have been able to do many things with my Shadow since finding all this great info here. Love the website and keep up the great work.

Is anyone else annoyed by the font being used on OM4? I’ve tried different phone settings, and font sizes in the browser, but they all look terrible. Ideas?

  • Mike Benton said:

Yes, I found it quite surprising the way it looked. On my Wizard it looked fine.

    Mike,
I downloaded Opera Mini 4 per the instructional video but it fails to connect to the internet. I currently have the 5.99 t-zones plan and not the data plan. I don’t think this should affect it. Do you know of any issues that might be behind this problem.

    Thanks again,
    Danny

Off-topic since you don’t have a forum yet. Is there an easy way to dial numbers that are listed with letters? Like 888-905-HOPE? I tried dialing one the other day and had to laugh when I looked at the keyboard on the Shadow. Should be some solution, yes? Or do I have to borrow another cell phone? Thanks. Love the website!

    Danny,

Unfortunately if you only have t-zones and you aren’t connected to a wireless network I believe you are out of luck. T-Zones allows use to wirelessly connect to T-Mobile computers not to the internet and Operas computers (which is where Opera Mini connects to download websites once they are parsed on Opera’s servers).

ok i know this probably doesnt belong here but i need some help with my text messages, so here is my question. How do you access a text you saved to as a draft and didnt send it.

i am having one heck of a time trying to find my draft box. i just noticed this today and now it bugging me to no end

  • Conor said:

Ryan- when you are in your text inbox list what you do is touch the right soft-key and that will bring up some options and just click on Folders and you will see the Drafts, Inbox, Outbox, and Sent Items. good luck.

From the home screen, select Start and then highlight Internet Explorer and press the right soft key and select Speed Dial. Choose the number you want to assign it to and select Done.

After that, from the home screen just hold the number you selected and it will launch it. You can do this from any app in the Start menu.

What exactly is the deal with the 5.99 Tmobile Web? can you actually access the internet and go on whatever site you wish? or is it just like a t-zones type thing. If you can access actually websites, can you use it anywhere?

tmobile web is different from the tmobile internet package im typing the comment off of my shadow now

You can drag and drop video files to your Shadow using ActiveSync or Vista Device Center. Just plug in your Shadow via miniUSB and find the mobile device in the mycomputer folder on your PC. I would recommend using a MicroSD card as the 150MB on the phone will fill up fast.

On a side note it would be nice if each comment was its own thread so you could reply to an individual comment. This may be the case in the forum… Haven’t checked yet.

The Web site has been redesigned since then. There is no listing for “High Memory Version.” Are you referring to the generic version called “Advanced MIDP 2 ?”

  • Mike Benton said:

You must be at the wrong link then. I just checked and everything is as should be. View this post on your Shadow and click the link above. It will take you directly to the page where you download the high memory version
