The Shadow has Windows Mobile Standard and does not include a ‘New document’ feature. This should also apply to other Smartphones as well. This method is fairly simple, doesn’t cost you a cent and you don’t have to install any programs, just download two empty documents. The first part of this post is the Basic method and the second part is the Advanced method which builds on the first.
Basic Method:
Download the following two files and just save them to your My Documents folder. They are appropriately named. To use them just go to your My Documents folder and click on either the Excel file (New xlsx.xlsx) or the Word file (New Docx.com). They are write protected so you will have to save your new document using ‘Save As’.
Here are the files:
It’s really that simple. For the Advanced method…
AllShadow.com does not assume any responsibility for anything that goes wrong with your phone. That being said, nothing will go wrong if you follow these directions
Note: When ‘Save as’ your new file make sure to save it to your Storage Card or it will be buried in your Windows directory. Having it on the Storage Card makes it easier to deal with when you have many files.
1. Download the files from above to your home computer
2. Connect your Shadow to your home computer.

3. In Windows Explorer go to the menu ‘Tools > Options > View Tab > make sure that the box for ‘Hide protected operating system files’ is unchecked.
![]()
4. In Windows Explorer navigate on your device to ‘/ > Windows > Start Menu > Office Mobile’
5. Copy the two files you downloaded to this directory and you’re finished. Now when you go the Start menu on the Shadow, simply go to the Office Mobile folder and you can open a new document from there. You can even go so far as to add it to your Speed Dial if you create new documents frequently.

Hi, I have a problem connecting to the Internet via WiFi from my home router. I have not tried Hot Spot yet but anything I try to do from reseting to entire phone, calling Customer service, and reseting my router. It connects works for about a minute then says it has problems. When I download it starts but never finishes. A little help? If possible. Or anyone come across this Problem? I have the green one.

Dominic, what is the error messages you are getting? Are you only having this problem with the two files in this post?

Well For instance when I go to The m.live.com site and download the livesearch.cab it begins to download but unlike on your videos where your on a wifi connection, it loads super slow then it stops at different areas cause I tried it multiple times. Like at 61K 101K never higher than 101k. Then when I let it sit for a couple hour hoping for it to load I come back to find,”THe file was interrupted. Resume downlaoding…..

another problem it probably causes it is that the connection is always getting lost. I mean I start downloading then all of a sudden instead of downloading I alerts, saying the page cannot download because the connection was lost. Check connection and try again later. I check and the connection on the phone says its connected, this computer I am using is connected to the WiFi, but the Internet on the phone stops. I tried stopping it and trying another connection but the same problen occurs.

Dominic, what kind of connection is the wifi connected to and how far away is the access point from you. If you don’t have T-Mobile Web or Internet I suggest signing up for it. On the T-Mobile internet (which is a bit slower than wifi but works!) it only takes about a minute to download the Live Search file and a few seconds for the files in this post.

I have the Unlimited Internet service with T-mobile I have a DSL Connection through Comcast, the wireless router is next in the same room as I am, right next to me cause its at a desk next to the bed. Also I cannot connect at all without the WiFi on. T-mobile internet does not work. I called Customer service they didn’t help much. They said to try a different phone like a dash or something and see if I get the same Problem.

another option is to install a program that creates new documents, the MoDaCo DoNew…
December 4th, 2007 at 5:54 pm
axv I didn’t include the MoDaCo DoNew as it didn’t work correctly on the Shadow. It’s a great app for the phones it does work on. Thanks for the tips though, always appreciated.

Dominic,
In the same location, are you able to send and receive MMS?
Is the security on your WiFi wide open? Also is it B or G?

Hi Mike!
Wasn’t sure where to ask this question but do you know if there is a way to sync my google calendar to my shadow? I currently have my work outlook synced to the shadow but I don’t want to add my personal and work calendars together. Is there a way around this?
Love this website btw!

Gi Mr. Benton, great site I can’t wait until the forums are up and running. I question I had was do you know where I can find directions or instructions on editing contact info on the shadow. The Manual is spotty at best.
Specifically I want to change the primary number in a contact.
Any suggestions?

I dont understand how to make the word doc work on my phone
December 12th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
For some reason…my wifi refuses to turn on, what do i do to fix this problem
December 12th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
Bao, if you open the word doc on your phone through the file explorer (Start > File Explorer) then it will open the document in word/excel and you will be able to work with it as if it is a new document. When you save it, you will need to give it a different name just like any normal document
Richard,
When you go to Manage Connections are you able to highlight and select the wifi icon? Does the swirly color thing appear and disappear with no effect? Try pulling the battery out for at least ten seconds and power your phone back on

help me,
The phone should be able to extract them. If not, extract them on your desktop once you downloaded them. Then transfer the extracted files to your phone
December 23rd, 2007 at 11:31 pm
this isnt working for me, i even extracted the zip files on my comp on then put them on the phone and when i open it on the phone all the files in the folder come up but not the new word doc
January 3rd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
downloaded the files above. they downloaded as zipped files. i opened the files and there are different folders, etc. is there a certain file that I need out of the zipped file, or can I just save one of the files in the zipped file?
January 5th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
I downloaded the files and extracted them on my computer then i put them in my Documents on my phone. I still can’t make a new word document. Did i do something wrong?
January 11th, 2008 at 2:32 am
hey guys this should help. when you save the zip files on to your computer. just change the file extension. example: “newworddoc.docx” once you have done that for both docs save them to your phones my document and youll be able to create new docs. when you open either one youll see that you cant edit it. just press the right soft key choose edit and you can start editing. just make sure you save as name is different then the original file. hope that helps
