Here’s How to Adjust Background Images

Posted by Mike Benton on November 28th, 2007

Dennis asked if there was a way to set an image as the Home screen background and not have it zoom in. It looks like it really depends on the size of the image itself. For example if you use the Waterfall picture that comes preloaded on the Shadow it will fit perfectly, but if you take a picture at 2MP resolution, set it as background you get the ‘Set Display Area’ screen. It looks like it will use that area but when you return to the home screen it is zoomed in. Here is a solution I found.

If we use a large background image AND had the ability to compress, it wouldn’t look very good as there would be image artifacting. The best bet is to use smaller images.

After playing with it a bit, I found that 1MP images work best with the ‘Select Display Area’ and show up as chosen. But if we want an image to show up entirely on the homescreen it needs to be 240 width by 320 height. If you want you edit pictures on your desktop and transfer them to the Shadow. I like to use Paint.Net it is a very competent program.

To take a picture that will work use the Medium size setting on the camera.

To do this:

2.Press the camera button. Once it loads, press the right soft key to access the menu, select the Size menu and choose M for medium sized.

7. At the viewing screen, press the Right Soft key and select ‘Use as Home Screen’, on the next screen Adjust the Transparency if you want, otherwise select Finish.

8. Go back to your home screen and the image should be set
